I’m trying to travel to Brazil next month with my wife to attend her mother’s 80th birthday. Brazil requires anyone coming into the country to be vaccinated. There are five exceptions to that, and one is if you have a letter from a physician stating that a current medical condition would contraindicate getting the vax.
I tried to get my doctor to write a letter for me stating that my heart condition should preclude me from getting the Covid vax, due to all the incidents of cardiac events across the age spectrum. My condition puts me at increased risk for afib and stroke (I’m 58). He replied that “I cannot write a letter saying that it is a contraindication for you to be vaccinated based on the information you provided, as the vaccine is actually recommended even more highly for people with heart conditions. Your heart condition actually increased your risk of adverse outcome more from getting COVID than from getting vaccinated. I regularly recommend the vaccination strongly to those with heart conditions. I am sorry that I cannot help you further in this request.”
I’ve never had Covid, but have been in close contact with several people who have (including my wife). I’m blown away by the ignorance and fear still being peddled by the medical maintenance people. It certainly not medical care.
I can’t anymore with this madness. Kudos to Alex for having to read the NYTimes to report on their “journalism”; I imagine his blood pressure must spike each time.

The Ethical Skeptic on Twitter is coming out with a piece regarding the 344,000 excess deaths in younger people since the beginning of the vaccine rollout. Should be really, really enlightening.

I've been sputtering for two days, after that weasel-y twit "Dr." Rochelle Walensky offered her weak non-mea culpa about the CDC screwing up the covid response.
She enumerated that the agency's "messaging" was a problem.
Here's what she didn't mention, as the issues that must be addressed before the next pandemic:
1. How about don't attack and demonize qualified experts who offer alternate suggestions--I'm saying the Great Barrington Doctors. Rather than saying, "We think they're wrong and here's why...." Fauci et al ATTACKED these experts.
2. How about allowing individual doctors to treat individual patients without threatening the doctors with loss of hospital admitting privileges--and worse!
3. How about NEVER, EVER again mandate an experimental drug and strong-arm the public into compliance?
4. How about NEVER, EVER allow the government to "recommend" or "advise" a national Internet platform to stop dissemination of factual, accurate information?
I'm just old enough to say that never in my (remaining) lifetime will I trust the CDC. Perhaps younger people will be more forgiving. Someday.
It's OK to be wrong. I work in software and being wrong (bugs) is inevitable. What's important, though, is to have a culture that relentlessly roots out mistakes and fixes them. The worst thing is to have someone who covers up mistakes or pretends everything is fine when it's not. That's partly why I found it so weird that 99% of my collogues were on Team Apocalypse -- Public Health leaders violated every principle we, in our industry, regard as inviolable.
They never admit they're wrong. In fact, in government generally, bad ideas often get more money and power thrown at them, because it's assumed they failed due to lack of resources.
Mr. Carroll, if you lie to me AND attempt to institutionalize immunity from criticism, either by law or by peer pressure, I will never trust you again.

The vaccine is not a vaccine and it does not stop transmission or infection. Everyone will get it and most likely more than once and after you survive the first infection the will be less and less dangerous. So grow up and move on with life.

Also Scott Gottlieb wants the FDA to handle the VAERS database. We need less power, more transparency for all these institutions.
