Sad to say you are correct. CA went to mailed ballots long ago....I can't even remember when I last voted at a polling place, but probably a decade. You can mail back your ballot or you can drop it in a drop box at various places. Elections in California are for the most part a non-event. Most people barely know who the candidates OR office holders are, and they don't care. A very small percentage of California's approx. 22 million eligible voters even bother to vote. In this last election, Gov. Newsom didn't even bother to campaign because he was so assured of winning anyway, and for that matter, his Republican token opponent Dahle didn't really appear to campaign either. But ONE person who campaigned big time and who actually WON was Republican Kevin Kiley, whose win surprisingly pushed the R's in the house to majority. So in some places, even crazy communist California, your opposing vote CAN count here and there.
