Why straight talk about vaccine failure will be even harder to find than straight talk about all the other Covid failures

Hint: You can throw away your masks, you can open schools, but you can't unvaccinate.

I like to think the truth wins, sooner or later.

When it comes to Covid, we already have seen the truth (and the Republican win in Virginia’s gubernatorial election) drive policy changes. Schools aren’t closing again any time soon. Lockdowns also seem to be permanently off the table. Better late than never.

But vaccines are a different beast. Last week I was talking to my editor at Regnery, the good folks who publish PANDEMIA, about writing another Covid book.

The deepening failure of the vaccines, says I. Just look at the data, says I. The way the clinical trials were blown up prematurely, the myocarditis numbers, original antigenic sin, yadda yadda yadda…

I even had a title: EVERYBODY KNOWS.

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded, everybody knows that the game is fixed…

You know when you’re making a pitch (Honey! Let’s try the local swinger’s club! They’ve got a two-for-one special this week!), and you think it’s going great? Then you look deep into the other person’s eyes and see it… isn’t.

This was one of those moments.

Because my editor had a very good question: Who’s your audience? Who’s buying the book?

Who indeed?

It’s fair to say that anyone who has not been vaccinated at this point is not going to be, barring a job loss and/or black-helmeted men going door-to-door.

And I cannot offer what the hard-core anti-vaxxers want. I am an incompetence and greed factualist, not a conspiracy theorist (not yet, anyway). I can’t give you depopulation or 5G, just a rushed clinical trial that told the bright boys what they so badly wanted to hear, followed by mucho din-euros.

Then there are the vaccinated. Who are the vast majority of adults across the United States, Canada, Britain, and Europe.

And who are, work with me here… vaccinated. Which is a choice no one gets to unmake. Only time can possibly lessen the impact of the changes those little globs of mRNA have produced in the immune system - and everywhere else.

If you’re vaccinated, and satisfied with your choice, you are staying far away from this book. And if you’re vaccinated, and having creeping doubts… you are staying even further away.

As for those happy few of you who are what I’d call reasonable skeptics? You are probably getting all you need right here.

So for the moment, EVERYBODY KNOWS is on hold. (Not the worst move journalistically anyway. We will need another year or two of population-level Covid and mortality data, as well as basic research about how the vaccines are affecting immune systems, to have a chance of judging them fairly.)

Not to worry, though. I pitched my editor something else and she… was quite interested.
