Today in leftover Covid madness: Reason one zillion The New York Times won't be rehiring me
Unbelievable but true, they still require proof of Covid vaccinations for new employees. Also, stupidity from Rutgers University and Outward Bound!
Covid is over.
Except when it isn’t.
Along with a flurry of articles claiming that the United States is facing a new Covid wave (yep, hospitalizations are up to 1,300 a day in a country with 800,000 hospital beds, see chart at bottom), turns out that leftover pandemic theater has not entirely disappeared.
To wit, the New York Times still wants new employees to be vaccinated. Because science!
—
(Good question!)
—
Just the original two shots, which, of course, are no longer available for most adults. (In April, the Food and Drug Administration changed its recommendation for first-time vaccinations from the two-dose regimen tested in the clinical trials to “a single dose of a bivalent vaccine” - even though we have literally NO evidence of how that vaccine works in unjabbed people. Because science!)
And even for remote employees? Especially for remote employees, friend, the Times is looking out for you!
Besides, a Covid jab requirement is the most efficient way to make sure no one who isn’t woke accidentally slips through.
Anyhoo, guess I’ll have to give up on my dream that the Times will take me back. Too bad, I’d fit right in these days.

(CAN’T WORK FOR THE TIMES, I GOTTA PAY THE BILLS SOMEHOW.)

Across the Hudson River from the Times, Rutgers University - New Jersey’s state university, best known for a football team that was held scoreless by the Big 10 powerhouses Minnesota and Maryland last year - is also requiring Covid shots for its students:
All students - including new, returning, transfer, and visiting students - are required to have received the COVID 19 primary vaccination series (two doses) OR the bivarient (one dose) OR have an approved medical or religious exemption.
The most egregious part of this mandate is that whoever wrote it couldn’t even be bothered to get the name of the new shot right. It’s not bivarient, it’s bivalent.
It causes myocarditis either way, though!

Meanwhile, a longtime member of Team Reality sent in this email.
Enjoy, then we’ll discuss.
(What, they’re not requiring N95s, only “strongly recommending” them? Obviously they want campers to die.)
If it’s not obvious, Outward Bound is geared at healthy teenagers and young adults, the people whose risk from Covid is too low to measure. Nonetheless, viral performance art remains in full force.
The fact that masks and physical distancing do nothing to stop the transmission is merely an added bonus. Because science! (Seems to be a theme today.)

(FOLLOW THE SCIENCE!)

About that new wave…
(The new wave! See it? Look further down. No, further. No, further - yes, there it is.)

Hope you’ve enjoyed this breezy summer Thursday edition of Unreported Truths. That’s it for now, I’ve got to pick up the boy from baseball practice. (He got smacked in the chest yesterday. Builds character!)
Covid has become integral to these people's self-conception. They're not ready to let it go. They're also not exactly the type to ever admit being so egregiously wrong about something. Better to pretend that the vaccine actually prevents transmission and ignore any cognitive dissonance.
Hi Alex - longtime fan of your work (and subscriber). There are 97 four year colleges out of over 2600 four colleges left mandating COVID vaccines for fall enrollment. They have perhaps never looked more ridiculous than they do right now. Many if not most have outdated language on their Websites and some still claim vaccinations are to "protect our community". If you are inclined to amplify this information; check out our Website at www.nocollegemandates.com where we keep lists so parents and students can chose wisely.
