Sure... and what about the influx of "migrants" being flown in to cities all around the country by our very own FBI, the deliberate destruction of our economy and currency, and George Soros's destroying of the rule of law by refusing to prosecute crimes with his bought and paid for AGs - this is a recipe for the death of a nation.

You're welcome. Having done a fair amount of reading about the French Revolution, I can't view the royal family (Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette) as villains.

The Revolution went wildly off the rails. It need not (ideally) have been as ugly, brutal, and horrific as it ended up being. At the beginning of the Revolution, the King was in agreement with the first leaders of the revolution. He wanted there to be more democracy in France, a limitation on the power of the monarchy, (in other words, a constitutional monarchy, such as exists in the United Kingdom and other countries that were at one time pure monarchies), more political participation by the common people, protection of civil rights, etc.

As tends to happen, the initial, moderate, decent leaders of the revolution were repeatedly and increasingly overthrown by their more violent, extremist contemporaries. The moderate, humane revolutionaries were the first victims of the Reign of Terror, the first modern totalitarian regime, which became the template for all subsequent totalitarian regimes. It's a devastating tale! I could go on and on about it, but I'd be here at the computer all day. Best wishes to you.

And how would Americans be better-off today if the Canal Zone were still a U S territory?

Expand full comment

This is a good question. To take a shot at a possible answer, (1) it was built at enormous cost, therefore GIVING it away does not seem appropriate, (2) Panama is very corrupt; I was there a couple of years ago, my taxi got pulled over for no reason and the cop wanted - and got - a bribe, (3) there is always the possibility that whoever controls it will stop allowing the U.S. access, which kind of defeats the whole purpose for why it was built.

Expand full comment

(1) Sunk costs don't matter. (2) As if there's no corruption in the U S. And Panama would be part of Colombia but for US action related to the canal. (3) Do you believe deep state interests wouldn't take action contrary to the national interest, for their private benefit?

1) When you finish paying off your house, are you gonna give it away? Sunk costs don't matter, right? I didn't think so.

Most Ukrainian people have been willing to die for democracy & a FREE Ukraine. To have the chance and opportunity to have a better life for themselves and, most importantly, their children in THEIR OWN country.

In around 2016, the USA military had a small contingent that marched in the Independence Day parade in Kyiv. As always, the street of Kreschatyk was packed with people.

I began to hear murmurs and then people shouting "Look Americans" ...

I smiled

At that point I understood the "bright shining city on the hill" and what the concept of America means to the world and oppressed people. A concept many of us have forgotten.

We represent freedom, opportunity and dreams. We represent better lives for our children. In many ways we are no longer that country idolized by so many. We have become jaded and forget that our example is what gives the world the strength to fight against tyranny.

In that one moment, I was proud of my country again and understood who we truly are. The greatest country that ever existed and the country that gives hope to the world.

Also, just because the genie's out of the bottle for *some* doesn't mean it is logical to let *everyone* play with the genie.

Expand full comment

Shouldn't all "some" see that as being in their interest? Like China and Russia? In regard to NK and Iran? That would take care of both. But, apparently not.

I thought the nuclear non-proliferation principle wouldn't allow for it. But somehow this is not in the focus. So, are you saying the nuclear non-proliferation is dead?

I'm guessing with that question you're practicing the marketing adage of "There's no such thing as bad publicity." Good luck with your newsletter.

Expand full comment

can't ask questions, ron? why is that? to foster a lively discussion, for example? exchange ideas? bring facts to bear?

Expand full comment

Ok, I was afraid your question might be genuine (and you still could be play'n me). I'll keep it obviously simple. Israel has reportedly had nukes for decades and has not used them. They have stated and practiced peaceful coexistence with their neighbors except when attacked. Conversely, Iran has stated their intent to destroy Israel and has practiced hostile behavior for decades. In conclusion, the current regime does not deserve the opportunity to possess nukes as millions of people would cease to exist if Iran were to follow their own edict. It comes down to risk-reward and it's not worth the risk. Capisce?

Expand full comment

I must admit I have not followed Iran policy closely. I know the US invasion of Iraq was a huge boon and an opening for Iran. Upset the whole apple cart. Put the Genie back into the bottle now... Wasn't played smart, was it?

explain why we have sanctions on Iran and N Korea as a preventative measure so they do not develop nukes YET we are going to wait until putin invades to enforce sanctions?

Put sanctions in place NOW, make putin back away and remove the sanctions as he quits his threatening behavior.

We in America have become myopic in our focus. We don't look at the world as it affects us. We don;t look and see almost EVERY country has overreacted to SC-2. We polarize or discussions into white/black, red/blue. rich/poor and forget there are vast areas in between.

Expand full comment

Because sanctions are unconstitutional, illegitimate and unwise. They punish and prevent the very thing that creates peace and idea exchange -- trade and immigration. Odd you make a black/white comment, given your demonization of Russia as just some evil miasma and not a diverse nation of 150 million.

When you ask a logical question, you'll deserve a logical answer. If you don't think Iran's history over the past four decades answers your question, then it's not a logical question.

Expand full comment

Ah yes, the "Iran is dangerous" objection. Tell me, which country has conducted the highest number of illegitimate invasions in the last 50-75 years? Or killed the most civilians in its invasions? Or perhaps, used an atomic bomb on a civilian population? Hint: Not Iran.

As ugly as the hypocrisy is, I adopt the great Walter Block's position that nukes are per se immoral to manufacture or hold. They are by definition non-specific destructive devices and cannot reasonably be used in a manner that avoids death of the innocent. Accordingly, they have no lawful use.

Expand full comment

I'm not sure of the name of the logical fallacy, but just because *we* may be dangerous doesn't mean Iran *isn't*.

Now, please make the case for our NOT using The Bomb to end WWII. I can't *wait* to read that one.

Walter Block doesn't live in the real world. Let's give all our nukes to Iran, and then tell them to dismantle them "because they're immoral".

Good grief.

Biden's biggest problem is that all his 'ideas' are terrible. You can't simply wish hard enough to make things happen the way you want. The real world has rules.

----------------------

https://simulationcommander.substack.com/p/inflation-and-you

This is a major problem for the Biden administration in particular and way too many of our current ‘leaders’ in general (and by extension the rest of us). They believe something is true, and think that strong enough belief will conjure it into reality. So they spend millions on the homeless in Seattle and don’t make the problem any better. They dole out millions to schools to ‘safely open’ when schools never needed to be closed in the first place. Billions get spent on high-speed rail, only for the cost to continue to climb while still having no high-speed service. No matter! They will throw good money after bad! After all, if they stop spending money, they might have to return some of that cash. Better to light it on fire!

With regards to inflation, the Biden administration first claimed that the problem was temporary. Then they shifted the to blame ‘greedy’ businesses (who all decided to get greedy at the same time, I guess?), an excuse that continues today. He’s still fighting to pass multi-trillion dollar bills, claiming they won’t add to inflation — while admitting Americans are already getting ‘clobbered’ by it. There’s simply no admission — or even the inkling of one — that terrible monetary policies over the last couple years are to blame.

you give him far too much credit on "his ideas"

Particularly in light of the recent findings from the Durham investigation... Close to a Watergate scenario that the Hillary Clinton campaign pulled off. And whether there's not a smoking gun for suitcases of ballots being counted that would have swayed the numbers in the other direction (debatable), there's definitely the aspect of spying, lying, deceit, and negative propaganda about candidate and President Trump that clearly influenced the election, and not in his favor.

She had to go on a business trip last week and had a few minutes in her hotel room to kill before meeting some workmates for dinner and decided to watch the evening news with Lester Holt and he was interviewing President Biden. She said she was shocked at how demented Biden looked and acted (she has worked with Alzheimer’s patients since she was 16) and this has shown her what I have been trying to tell her for months and months about the dangerous position this puts our citizens, country and the world in.
