Pilots at Southwest appear to be sicking out in a rebellion against vaccine mandates that has crippled the airline since Friday.
Why Southwest and not United? Maybe because LUV is based in Dallas and has a 50-year-history of standing up to government overreach. On Friday the pilots’ union asked for a temporary halt to the mandate.
The flight cancellations began almost immediately and are continuing today.

I don’t mind paying slightly more either and always try to support my local small businesses unless it’s truly out of my price budget, but a list would be helpful because I used to support a local bookstore in AZ that is otherwise a great shop, but 2 elections in a row their newsletter was bashing Republicans and Trump supporters (more than just implied but not said outright). I’ve stopped shopping there. Same with a Spice Shop. Had it not been for their stupidity in putting their political views in their newsletter, I’d probably would be unknowingly be supporting their cause.
That would be Penzey's Spices. I remember getting a vulgar email from them right after the election about not wanting my business if I voted for Trump. It was both dumb from a business perspective & insulting on a personal level even tho I didn't pull the lever for either candidate in 2016. And I have a food website that used to link to them. Agreed and I could also. I barely shop at Amazon anymore and only do if I can’t get directly from the company itself or I really need it ASAP but most times I can wait. We do the best we can which still leads to positive change (maybe not fast enough in this situation but still….).

I canceled a fencing job last week after I went to their office and saw a Biden/Harris sticker. I have used this company several times over the years, no more. I canceled Amazon, Netflix, eBay, PayPal and American Express a while ago ... no longer buy Coke, Unilever products... don't go to McDonald's, Target or Macy's... don't use Facebook, Google, Twitter, Instagram....yep it's an adjustment, but America is worth it.

I won't lie, due to my situation (kind of like Paul the Apostle, not all that mobile), at times i have to use Ebay and Amazon but i do not have credit cards, nor PayPal account, nor subscribe to Netflix, don't go to fast food joints (i'm Italian-Canadian, and strong on being like my parents from the old country), never signed up to Facebook or IG, but do have a twitter account to spread truth like Jesus commands and expose evil and for the news. It is not so much about America being worth it, but rather it's worth doing what is righteous and true in God's eyes as best as you are able which is what makes a nation.
I'm becoming more and more convinced that people who go on wearing masks regardless of how much proof there is that they are ineffective are ugly and want to hide their faces or they're criminals. Why else would you do that to yourself, especially when you're out at public places where they're not required? We don't have mandates in stores (yet), but these people are everywhere, most of them younger, some who are older with purple hair. Why do that without an overwhelming range of proofs that they work unless you're going to rob a place or because you're ashamed of your face?

2) I will not get the vaxx - it's toxic, and besides, will not work on me, as myeloma reduces my ability to make antibodies to just 5-10% of a normal person's.
3) I use an N95, it may reduce transmission, or not, but it's worth the small sacrifice to me.

No, I did not wear a mask, but long taken lots of vit. D, tons of supplements, and am careful. COVID is new, and involves unknowns. I hope I'd get a mild case (otherwise healthy) and plan to "treat myself", but no way to know if my particular immune dysfunction could get me condemned to death by ventilator.
Case in point: I was slicing some onions today and my eyes started tearing up. Ah...I have an N95 mask in the closet! I put it on and it slowed the tearing down, but finally was again overcome. So I went for the big gun....my Israeli tear-gas mask. The onion even seeped into it a wee bit. Bottom line.... if any air seeps around the mask, or your eyes and ears are unprotected, you still get exposed. So live your life and opt for prevention through wellness.

No, they approved Comirnaty - not available in the US and legally distinct from Pfizer. Pfizer just had the EUA extended. You can read the actual extension on the FDAs website. It is a very sketch bait and switch for reasons not disclosed
Except now the FDA has also released an updated info sheet that states “ The FDA-approved COMIRNATY (COVID-19 Vaccine, mRNA) and the FDA-authorized Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) have the same formulation and ***CAN BE USED INTERCHANGEABLY*** to provide the COVID-19 vaccination series.” (emphasis mine)
PS - The only reason I even know this is because I came across Sydney Powell’s legal filing suing the DoD to stop their vaccine mandate and it specifically mentions that this “can be used interchangeably” wording came from the FDA.
It appears that they quietly added this document and the specific wording in late September, likely to prevent people from being able to push back that the currently available jabs are not the actual FDA-approved ones. They really are trying to block every avenue for those of us who want freedom of medical choice.
If you get the Comirnaty-labeled shot (hypothetically speaking here, because you can't get it), you at least have some legal recourse if you are harmed by it. If you get the EUA shot, which is the only Pfizer one you can get here in the U.S., you have no legal recourse. Doesn't matter if the FDA says the compounds are interchangeable. The compounds don't matter. Only the label matters
"CAN BE USED INTERCHANGEABLY" does not mean you're getting a licensed product. If the dose does not say Comirnaty, it's not a licensed product with associated legal consequences. What's worse, the licensed product Comirnaty doesn't even have to prove it is safe against scientificaly sufficient data of concern for cardiac issues until October 31, 2025.
I just read the FDA site on this and my interpretation it’s approved for 16 and up and only extended for EU for 12-15 year olds and that it is being marketed now as Comirnaty

Is there a difference in terms of liability? Or is this a distinction without difference? As in, is there something I can point to tell my employer why I would only take the Comirnaty product?
Big difference in legal liability. Under EUA, NO ONE involved in giving you that shot — from the manufacturer, to the person who actually sticks the needle in your arm — has any liability for anything that might go wrong. Once a vaccine is approved and added to the childhood vaccine schedule (which already happened for Comirnaty) only the manufacturer has immunity from liability and any injuries you sustain go to Vaccine Court established under the 1986 law (even for adults, not just kids). They’ve already paid out billions over the years. Under EUA, if you are injured, you have to file a claim with a special office under HHS. It’s very restrictive and very hard to get compensated.
Plus, you must file within one year of the date of vaccination--if you have long-term adverse effects or if it takes months to figure out where your health went haywire, too bad. If these were normally trialled vaccines the time limit would be understandable as there would be data on long-term effects.
Another very good reason to never allow any child to receive more than one vaccine at a time. If there is an injury you will know exactly what caused it.

The distinction is the current EUA pfizer jabbie carries no liability. The supposedly "approved", but not available Cominarty jabbie does carry some limited liability.

Correct. FDA illegally extended Pfizer's EUA when the rules say that once they have an approved product the EUA goes away. The rules are only for the "little" people. We need to change that.

That's not how the system works. Both jabbies are from the same manufacturer. Once one jabbie got "approved", the other jabbie EUA is supposed to go away according to the FDA's rules. The problem is, with these PCR tests over the years they can be manipulated to show whatever they want them to…so you probably have had the FLU in the past from a coronavirus but they weren’t testing for it as the focus of fear was on Influenza A/B…. I posted on another thread that a healthy, active older woman who has been anti-vaxx was told to be vaxxed if she wanted to attend her granddaughter’s wedding this past June. For months she refused and the family didn’t budge. She finally went and got a vaxx just so she could attend her beloved granddaughter’s wedding. But she couldn’t go after all, because within a week of the vaxx she was paralyzed from the waist down. PT over the summer and continuing to now is slowly bringing back some movement. Thus — this loving grandmother missed her granddaughter’s wedding BECAUSE she got vaxxed. How cruel a fate! I wonder how “the family” feels now about pretty much FORCING her??

Same thing is happening with a 84 year old friend that I help because she has no family in the state. Her daughter lives in Colorado and hasn't visited in two years, finally planned a trip to see her for thanksgiving then tells her she won't come unless her mother gets vaccinated. She doesn't want it becaUse two ladies in her tiny church, one had a stroke and the other a heart attack within days of it. But her daughter doesn't care.
I can’t begin to describe the rage I feel when I read this. This is not love. It is not care. At that age anything can kill them. The point of life is to LIVE. That poor woman. I hear about this all the time. I know a woman in her 70s whose children threatened to prevent her from ever seeing her young grandchildren again. I mean-the risk to the children is all but zero. And who are they to say they are doing it for the grandmother? Is it not her decision how she lives her life?

I agree, and the irony in it all is my friend told me her daughter got covid after she got the shot meanwhile my friend has been going to church, coming to friend's houses for holidays, all through covid when she was supposed to be hiding away in her home alone. She's coming to our family thanksgiving now since her daughter has cancelled.

Same happened with my friend, so she got the jab and May now be getting a booster even though they disagree with all this but they love their grandchildren so they risk dying for them. I have thought the same. So very thankful my grandparents are in heaven. They did not live to see the madness. My mom is in her late 70s and it is killing her. She grew up in what was like a Norman Rockwell painting. It was a beautiful life. Now she feels like a foreigner in our own country.

This is a classic example of why I will not be jabbed. I am 71 and worked for over 40 years in the hospital trenches as a Registered Nurse and never got a flu shot and never had but a few bad colds (mostly dragged home by the little ones).

I’m 69, very healthy, and had covid last Dec. Took vit D, C, quercetin, and zinc and did fine. Was back at the gym in 2 weeks, good as new, lol. I could name 50 people who had it last winter, many over 60. All recover and not one required hospitalization.

The statistics are unreliable. Some diagnoses are based on tests but many are clinical decisions on symptoms, and billing. Early covid symptoms are same as flu, and they get paid better for covid. I applaud you for this action! Like any statistical measure, what research “shows” is not the only important measure; what the research results do NOT show is equally important. That questionnaire at least should have had some blank lines below, inviting “Other reason(s) for not getting a vaccination.”

For a long time I have said pilots and doctors are the last real professionals in the country. I have lost faith in most docs. This give me hope. People with real jobs standing up to people who have fake jobs.
Isn't that what is called, "Corporate Medicine" and in theory is illegal in the US? How did we get from "Get a second opinion" to all doctors have to spout government propaganda, even if they know its a lie or bad science?
It’s incredibly disappointing to me. Most have simply given in, afraid of losing their job. We actually have doctors and nursing advocating withholding care if you’re not jabbed. It’s absolutely sickening these people are in healthcare.
It’s called Socialized Medicine and it’s what they are wanting. In theory it sounded great, but I’ve seen from my Canadian relatives how the whole notion has changed. It started off being something good into something bad. If you really want better treatment or a doctor you have to have separate private insurance which they’ll probably cut out there or pay out of pocket for a practitioner.
I work in medicine. ALL of my colleagues are aware of the true risk of COVID and are anti vaccination mandate. They may be "towing the line" in front of patients but, those who are true followers of the research know that this is baloney. Corporate medicine has, unfortunately, made public cowards of many very smart, very rigorous medical practitioners.
Pilots are very concerned they could have a jab injury that would disqualify them from flying. They need to make sure they can get disability if that happens. Then they will give in.
Haven't been to a doctor in 20+ years. I was t-boned by a 19 year old texting, red light runner a couple years ago and went to the ER to make sure neck was ok. When they found out I had no doctors and no medical history that they could access, I thought that I was going to be arrested. Seriously bad vibes and interrogations. How could I not have been tithing to big medicine/pharma for all of that time?? What kind of citizen was I?

Good for them. Our neighbor is a Southwest pilot... got Covid in April... and is absolutely refusing to get the shot. A friend saw their flight out of Indianapolis canceled last night.
He, his wife and two kids tested positive at the same time. He and his wife described it as somewhere between a moderate to bad flu; the kids had a stuffy nose - and that was it. Unbelievable how the country is being destroyed for something as minor as this.
I just canceled three flights for a bit later on this month. I promised myself that if Southwest mandates the injections I’d be taking my business back. I hate it, it’s $1000 I’m never going to get back most likely (I don’t see this getting resolved by May of next year when these funds expire since I booked them back in 2019 before Covid mania happened), but the idea of flying while pilots have this weighing on them, on top of dealing with the anger and dismay so palpable in every airport in the country right now, I’m out.
I didn’t. I thought about it, but all I can think is that they’ll end up black losing me for future flights. I’m comfortable with not spending money there, but at the moment I have zero trust in any of these places to take a comment in the manner they would have two years ago. Note if you complain you might end up with the FBI at your door. Half joking there…. Maybe one quarter joking.
Still write them. If more people did, it may (or may not) it will send hopefully a message and you’ll know you at least you gave feedback as to why you cancelled your flight and ask for an extension for your funds.
Yes definitely. Sadly, I also wrote my thoughts on all this to Southwest way before all this happened as it’s the only airline I’ll fly on even though I have family working for AA. All I got was that it would be forwarded on and I never heard back :-( When that happened it was cause for concern. They’ve always written me back if I wrote about an issue.
I get that you’re making fun of me, but I’m okay with that. The well being of myself, my mom, and my son are worth that money. I don’t want to fly through the skies with pilots who are saddled with this sort of decision, inject or get fired. No thanks. I hope your day is a little better though now that you’ve pooped on someone else.
I love this airline too. Last time I flew was before the plandemic and I was pleasantly surprised at the patriotism of the entire crew. The pilot even had an American flag tie!

I have had 2 good experiences myself. First time I flew was at the tail end of the lockdowns and start of mask mandates. I’m deaf with cochlears and always let the crew know I’m deaf in case of an Emergency. The flight attendant lowered her mask for all the flight instructions so I could read her lips and then asked if it was helpful as I don’t sign (not well anyway). The second time was this past Spring during all the craziness with the masks, but afterwards stopped by my seat and wrote out to ask if I needed help understanding. I always take note of things on my own like exits and try to count seats in case of a crash and it’s dark (sister is a former flight attendant) but I really appreciated this effort on her part knowing she couldn’t take off her mask because of rules.
I've been flying SW exclusively for over 10 years. Never felt safer flying with them than during Covid! We used to always get sick on planes it was just the price of flying, but now with fresh air instead of recirculating air planes feel so safe!! Making employees get vaccinated after flying this entire time without huge outbreaks is against logic.
While I am not a pilot, our company issued their mandate on Friday, tight before our Thanksgiving weekend up here in Cda. I dont particularly see it as a carrot, but another stick. Poke poke, poke. GTFO.
Don’t know. Everyone but 300 people caved at United and it will probably be the same at SWA. The pilot union might negotiate a deal for pilots but the flight attendant and mechanics unions refuse to get involved and those work groups are scared and likely to cave. Delta hasn’t announced anything yet but I have a feeling they are panicking. Being Atlanta based, they have a lot of black employees and the vax rates in that population are really low for a good reason. We’ll see.

Your statement assumes that unions were actually relevant at some point in the past. Their actual value to workers is vastly overstated, and their supposed role in improving working conditions is largely a myth of their own making.
We all are encouraged and support these folks who are courageous enough to put their careers on the line . . . until whatever it is affects us directly. Like having your flight canceled the day before you’re scheduled to leave on a trip you booked weeks ago. Very frustrating. Especially Southwest! They make a big effing deal of telling us that the cabin air is completely replaced ever 2-3 minutes. That's face-to-face contact (not passive sitting near or even next to) within 6 feet of a SYMPTOMATIC person, and for anywhere from a few minutes to THIRTY minutes. And yet Southwest replaces the entirety of the cabin air every 2-3 minutes.

I’m not disagreeing with anything you’ve said here, but I will say this: I’ve been blessed with a pretty good immune system. 27 years in my company (today) and I’ve been out sick (really sick, not brown bottle flu) less than a dozen times. But every time I fly, I catch something that produces an immune response. So I say the replaced air is total BS.
Airplane air can be very drying, and flying at high altitude in a pressurized tube is a change the body has to deal with. The “minor cold” symptoms - stuffy nose, sore throat, etc. - that many experience after flying are usually due to those factors and not exposure to germs in flight.

They told her it was because the pilot had Covid and had to quarantine entire flight crew. Her husband looked it up and said flights were cancelled because of weather. I wish the pilots had more sense and guts to revolt against a pointless mask mandate as well. We will NEVER fly Southwest ever again due to their Nazi like treatment of disabled children on the flights. They and other airlines ( like American) have a means to REQUEST a waiver but they do everything they can to make this a huge insurmountable hurdle. For example American does not openly advise they have this option. They make one find a secret number to call. Then, the agents WILL NOT even email the appropriate instructions which are odious and require renewal 30 days after a physician letter is dated, not from the time of the original flight mind you. So caregivers and adult patients need to be burdened with multiple time pressured visits to physicians every time they need to fly.
Somehow this seems to smack of a violation of the spirit and letter of the law pertaining to the Americans with Disabilities Act.

FWIW the US government last September STOPPED screening arriving passengers to the entry site airports because there were 19 possible cases out of a survey of approximately 700,000. It is a decisive issue so they run with it. Now finally we are seeing push back. My sister was visiting in PHX and due to fly to MDW yesterday. We received a cancellation notice from SWA around 1:45 and noticed there were NO flights on SWA available for rebooking yesterday (Saturday) nor today (Sunday). AA also had nothing which was weird--must be some sort of relationship between the two. I quickly found a flight for her on United and she got home. BUT, the AZCentral news reported it was an Air Traffic Control issue and weather in the East. That sounded super-fishy. The other airlines didn't have cancellations...

I don’t mind paying slightly more either and always try to support my local small businesses unless it’s truly out of my price budget, but a list would be helpful because I used to support a local bookstore in AZ that is otherwise a great shop, but 2 elections in a row their newsletter was bashing Republicans and Trump supporters (more than just implied but not said outright). I’ve stopped shopping there. Same with a Spice Shop. Had it not been for their stupidity in putting their political views in their newsletter, I’d probably would be unknowingly be supporting their cause.
That would be Penzey's Spices. I remember getting a vulgar email from them right after the election about not wanting my business if I voted for Trump. It was both dumb from a business perspective & insulting on a personal level even tho I didn't pull the lever for either candidate in 2016. And I have a food website that used to link to them. Not anymore.

I canceled a fencing job last week after I went to their office and saw a Biden/Harris sticker. I have used this company several times over the years, no more. I'm becoming more and more convinced that people who go on wearing masks regardless of how much proof there is that they are ineffective are ugly and want to hide their faces or they're criminals. Why else would you do that to yourself, especially when you're out at public places where they're not required? We don't have mandates in stores (yet), but these people are everywhere, most of them younger, some who are older with purple hair. Why do that without an overwhelming range of proofs that they work unless you're going to rob a place or because you're ashamed of your face?

Case in point: I was slicing some onions today and my eyes started tearing up. Ah...I have an N95 mask in the closet! I put it on and it slowed the tearing down, but finally was again overcome. So I went for the big gun....my Israeli tear-gas mask. The onion even seeped into it a wee bit. Bottom line.... if any air seeps around the mask, or your eyes and ears are unprotected, you still get exposed. So live your life and opt for prevention through wellness.

PS - The only reason I even know this is because I came across Sydney Powell’s legal filing suing the DoD to stop their vaccine mandate and it specifically mentions that this “can be used interchangeably” wording came from the FDA.
It appears that they quietly added this document and the specific wording in late September, likely to prevent people from being able to push back that the currently available jabs are not the actual FDA-approved ones. They really are trying to block every avenue for those of us who want freedom of medical choice.
If you get the Comirnaty-labeled shot (hypothetically speaking here, because you can't get it), you at least have some legal recourse if you are harmed by it. If you get the EUA shot, which is the only Pfizer one you can get here in the U.S., you have no legal recourse. Doesn't matter if the FDA says the compounds are interchangeable. "CAN BE USED INTERCHANGEABLY" does not mean you're getting a licensed product. If the dose does not say Comirnaty, it's not a licensed product with associated legal consequences. What's worse, the licensed product Comirnaty doesn't even have to prove it is safe against scientificaly sufficient data of concern for cardiac issues until October 31, 2025.
I just read the FDA site on this and my interpretation it’s approved for 16 and up and only extended for EU for 12-15 year olds and that it is being marketed now as Comirnaty

Big difference in legal liability. Under EUA, NO ONE involved in giving you that shot — from the manufacturer, to the person who actually sticks the needle in your arm — has any liability for anything that might go wrong. Once a vaccine is approved and added to the childhood vaccine schedule (which already happened for Comirnaty) only the manufacturer has immunity from liability and any injuries you sustain go to Vaccine Court established under the 1986 law (even for adults, not just kids). They’ve already paid out billions over the years. Under EUA, if you are injured, you have to file a claim with a special office under HHS. It’s very restrictive and very hard to get compensated.
Plus, you must file within one year of the date of vaccination--if you have long-term adverse effects or if it takes months to figure out where your health went haywire, too bad. If these were normally trialled vaccines the time limit would be understandable as there would be data on long-term effects.
Another very good reason to never allow any child to receive more than one vaccine at a time. If there is an injury you will know exactly what caused it.

But she couldn’t go after all, because within a week of the vaxx she was paralyzed from the waist down. PT over the summer and continuing to now is slowly bringing back some movement. Her daughter lives in Colorado and hasn't visited in two years, finally planned a trip to see her for thanksgiving then tells her she won't come unless her mother gets vaccinated. She doesn't want it becaUse two ladies in her tiny church, one had a stroke and the other a heart attack within days of it. But her daughter doesn't care.
I can’t begin to describe the rage I feel when I read this. This is not love. It is not care. At that age anything can kill them. The point of life is to LIVE. That poor woman. I hear about this all the time. I know a woman in her 70s whose children threatened to prevent her from ever seeing her young grandchildren again. I mean-the risk to the children is all but zero. And who are they to say they are doing it for the grandmother? Is it not her decision how she lives her life?

I have thought the same. So very thankful my grandparents are in heaven. They did not live to see the madness. My mom is in her late 70s and it is killing her. She grew up in what was like a Norman Rockwell painting. It was a beautiful life. Now she feels like a foreigner in our own country.

This is a classic example of why I will not be jabbed. I am 71 and worked for over 40 years in the hospital trenches as a Registered Nurse and never got a flu shot and never had but a few bad colds (mostly dragged home by the little ones).

The statistics are unreliable. Some diagnoses are based on tests but many are clinical decisions on symptoms, and billing. Early covid symptoms are same as flu, and they get paid better for covid. Flu isn't down, it's just misreported as covid. We set up pathological motives to fulfill the prophesy. It's entirely a manufactured crisis.

He, his wife and two kids tested positive at the same time. He and his wife described it as somewhere between a moderate to bad flu; the kids had a stuffy nose - and that was it. Unbelievable how the country is being destroyed for something as minor as this.

I just canceled three flights for a bit later on this month. I promised myself that if Southwest mandates the injections I’d be taking my business back. I hate it, it’s $1000 I’m never going to get back most likely (I don’t see this getting resolved by May of next year when these funds expire since I booked them back in 2019 before Covid mania happened), but the idea of flying while pilots have this weighing on them, on top of dealing with the anger and dismay so palpable in every airport in the country right now, I’m out.

I didn’t. I thought about it, but all I can think is that they’ll end up black losing me for future flights. I’m comfortable with not spending money there, but at the moment I have zero trust in any of these places to take a comment in the manner they would have two years ago. Note if you complain you might end up with the FBI at your door. Half joking there…. Maybe one quarter joking.
Still write them. If more people did, it may (or may not) it will send hopefully a message and you’ll know you at least you gave feedback as to why you cancelled your flight and ask for an extension for your funds.

Yes definitely. Sadly, I also wrote my thoughts on all this to Southwest way before all this happened as it’s the only airline I’ll fly on even though I have family working for AA. All I got was that it would be forwarded on and I never heard back :-( When that happened it was cause for concern. They’ve always written me back if I wrote about an issue.

I love this airline too. Last time I flew was before the plandemic and I was pleasantly surprised at the patriotism of the entire crew. The pilot even had an American flag tie!

I have had 2 good experiences myself. First time I flew was at the tail end of the lockdowns and start of mask mandates. I’m deaf with cochlears and always let the crew know I’m deaf in case of an Emergency. The flight attendant lowered her mask for all the flight instructions so I could read her lips and then asked if it was helpful as I don’t sign (not well anyway). The second time was this past Spring during all the craziness with the masks, but afterwards stopped by my seat and wrote out to ask if I needed help understanding. I always take note of things on my own like exits and try to count seats in case of a crash and it’s dark (sister is a former flight attendant) but I really appreciated this effort on her part knowing she couldn’t take off her mask because of rules.
That's because most SW pilots are retired military pilots.
I've been flying SW exclusively for over 10 years. Never felt safer flying with them than during Covid! We used to always get sick on planes it was just the price of flying, but now with fresh air instead of recirculating air planes feel so safe!! Making employees get vaccinated after flying this entire time without huge outbreaks is against logic.

Don’t know. Everyone but 300 people caved at United and it will probably be the same at SWA. The pilot union might negotiate a deal for pilots but the flight attendant and mechanics unions refuse to get involved and those work groups are scared and likely to cave. Delta hasn’t announced anything yet but I have a feeling they are panicking. Being Atlanta based, they have a lot of black employees and the vax rates in that population are really low for a good reason. We’ll see.
If Unions want to be relevant again, this is time to show their worth. Fight for employee rights. Was this not part of their original intent?

We all are encouraged and support these folks who are courageous enough to put their careers on the line . . . until whatever it is affects us directly. Like having your flight canceled the day before you’re scheduled to leave on a trip you booked weeks ago. Very frustrating. But it’s time to nut-up to this crap and stand tough, even if means our lives are significantly disrupted.
The point is to cripple the airlines. Only Lady Gaga and assorted politicians, reclining in their private jets, get to fly in the Greta Thunberg sanctioned future. Global Citizens can look up at the sky and watch them.

That's face-to-face contact (not passive sitting near or even next to) within 6 feet of a SYMPTOMATIC person, and for anywhere from a few minutes to THIRTY minutes. And yet Southwest replaces the entirety of the cabin air every 2-3 minutes.
So WTF, Southwest?? Why masks? Why Chinese virus jabs? Can you be any more inconsistent and hypocritical and asinine?
I’m not disagreeing with anything you’ve said here, but I will say this: I’ve been blessed with a pretty good immune system. 27 years in my company (today) and I’ve been out sick (really sick, not brown bottle flu) less than a dozen times. But every time I fly, I catch something that produces an immune response. So I say the replaced air is total BS.
Airplane air can be very drying, and flying at high altitude in a pressurized tube is a change the body has to deal with. The “minor cold” symptoms - stuffy nose, sore throat, etc. - that many experience after flying are usually due to those factors and not exposure to germs in flight.

Here's the problem with that group's efforts, IMO:

So funny...actually not. My friend just texted me that she is stuck in Arkansas because her flights have been cancelled. They told her it was because the pilot had Covid and had to quarantine entire flight crew. Her husband looked it up and said flights were cancelled because of weather. And of course, the truth comes out here. Good for southwest pilots!

I am thinking the pilots can do this themselves. Think about it, if all the major airlines have to cancel thousands of flights per day, the mandates would end very quickly thereafter. Come on pilots, the ball is in your court.
I wish the pilots had more sense and guts to revolt against a pointless mask mandate as well. We will NEVER fly Southwest ever again due to their Nazi like treatment of disabled children on the flights. The crews are aggressive, rude, intimidating, angry, spiteful, ignorant, condescending, and like little Stasi spies throughout their flights. Yelling at poor kids and their caregivers if a mask slips below their version of the Nasal Mendoza Line. It is appalling.
They and other airlines ( like American) have a means to REQUEST a waiver but they do everything they can to make this a huge insurmountable hurdle. For example American does not openly advise they have this option. They make one find a secret number to call. Then, the agents WILL NOT even email the appropriate instructions which are odious and require renewal 30 days after a physician letter is dated, not from the time of the original flight mind you. So caregivers and adult patients need to be burdened with multiple time pressured visits to physicians every time they need to fly.
Somehow this seems to smack of a violation of the spirit and letter of the law pertaining to the Americans with Disabilities Act.

FWIW the US government last September STOPPED screening arriving passengers to the entry site airports because there were 19 possible cases out of a survey of approximately 700,000. In other words, they know the futility of this but need to ride Joe and the left’s hard on against what they still see as a “Trump” follower boogy man. It is irrelevant what the science is. It is a decisive issue so they run with it. Now finally we are seeing push back. My sister was visiting in PHX and due to fly to MDW yesterday. We received a cancellation notice from SWA around 1:45 and noticed there were NO flights on SWA available for rebooking yesterday (Saturday) nor today (Sunday). AA also had nothing which was weird--must be some sort of relationship between the two. I quickly found a flight for her on United and she got home. BUT, the AZCentral news reported it was an Air Traffic Control issue and weather in the East. That sounded super-fishy. The other airlines didn't have cancellations...
American Airlines employees staged a protest at the headquarters in Texas. Maybe some of them are also calling in "sick."

I’m in Jacksonville and the word is Air Traffic Control walked out Friday night at Jacksonville center over vax mandate. There’s little media coverage of this even locally. Southwest had put out a statement Friday night that blamed ATC “issues” and bad weather There was no bad weather Friday night. It had moved out of the area by 2-3pm. Guess they don’t realize people actually live here and can debunk their bs
We need to support the field workers more than ever in this fight. White collar corporate folks like myself the corporations will just be offshored, but you can’t offshore truck drivers or utility line repair guys.
