When the story first broke I wondered how college students would be proficient enough in CPR to wind up with a secondary fentanyl overdose. (Four OD’d directly, two while performing CPR.) Now it makes sense. The world’s best military training at work.
This horror should be cause for serious self-reflection at the United States Military Academy. I have heard before now from parents who say the Covid restrictions at West Point are absurd; maybe those strictures played a role in this acting out.
But even if that’s part of the explanation, it can’t be an excuse. These cadets are supposed to be the best we have, and Duty, Honor, and Country are drilled into them. Cocaine is not part of the motto.
