This is the American Democrat party's dream scenario. Putting your political opponents in jail is a huge step towards communism and the media is complicit. The disgrace to call conservatives far right is all part of the plan. Make Republicans villains and jail them for practicing family values, religion and being pro-life. This is where we are headed if the Progressives ever get a majority.

The only thing stopping the courts from seizing power like this in the US is our Supreme Court and their fast track action to protect our elections. Judges did try to keep President Trump off some state ballots, but the Supreme Court put an end to it. Without that action, we would most likely now be controlled by an authoritarian government run by progressives, and headed for rigged elections, loss of basic rights like free speech, freedom of religion and the right to make any decisions on our own. This would be achieved using the activist courts supported by progressive elected officials until the people had enough and staged another revolution. Our only hope is that the Supreme Court will soon put an end to the use of the courts to usurp presidential power and authority. The courts were never meant to oversee and block so many actions a president takes. The courts need to let the will of the people be executed, even if some of the judges don't agree with those actions. I hope the Supreme Court steps in soon and ends all of these nation wide mandates by lower level judges. The current conflict between the courts and the president must end soon, for the good of the country. Letting it expand and grow would be a huge error in judgement. The Supreme Court needs to take a stand, and not sit on the sidelines hoping it won't get worse. That would be a akin to Nero watching Rome burn.

I’m not holding my breath on the Supreme Court doing anything soon. It seems that they’ve kind of crawl back into their holes and not wanting to give an assessment or a ruling on lower federal court judge’s decisions.

It looks like the Supreme Court is going to let all these cases go though the regular process, which could be a huge error in judgement. The conflict between the executive and judicial branches, and the resulting disruptions, could lead states to decide to go around the federal institutions to make changes to the US Constitution, to end the use of nationwide injunctions by individual federal judges. Congress could be bypassed by 2/3 of the state legislatures calling for a Constitutional Convention, which in turn could make proposed amendments (or even rewrite the Constitution entirely) and send them to state conventions to be ratified. This would bypass the 2/3 majority required in each house of Congress, but it would still require 3/4 of the state conventions to approve the changes. When I heard President Trump suggesting he might be able to serve another term, it occurred to me that this is a path he could use to be allowed to do so. It is also a path to possibly limit the judiciary's powers, revoke birthright citizenship or even remove Congress's ability to force spending appropriated funds. If President Trump is really successful in his efforts to rebuild the economy, improve purchasing power of US consumers, secure the border, remove most illegal aliens, improve job opportunities for US citizens, improve public safety and rebuild the US manufacturing base then it's possible such a move to revise the Constitution might succeed.

We are clearly now in the next phase: the courts assume the powers of the executive. The western nations are firmly in the grip of a deeply entrenched cabal of professionals who have absolutely no intention of allowing the people to rule themselves. In the US, if the Supreme Court doesn't get a handle on this, the outcome is a bit scary to contemplate. Trump and his staff, love them or hate them, have sent all the signals that they are not, positively not, going to rolled by petty tyrants in black robes. Trouble is coming, and it's what the "elites" want.

We are one election away from totalitarianism here also. If the people that love, liberty can’t wake the country up we will remain on the precipice every election for the foreseeable future.

At this point, today’s Leftist parties, across the world, no longer comprise legitimate political parties. They despise freedom, common decency, and the truth, while touting and supporting death, lies, destruction, and outright evil.

They are truly revolting, disgusting, immoral. They are more akin to a bizarre death cult. One that would like us all to drink the Kool-Aid.

The problem is massive influx of legal and illegal immigrants. In Canada, we got 15-20% increase in population in the last 5 years. Did we get the same bump in Doctors and Nurses? Hospital beds? Housing? Do we have 20% more chickens for for egg production? No - so with 20% more demand than supply - you get inflation ans shortages.

Well, to make up for all the shortages you got at least 15-20% more vibrancy. So there's that.

The US paid for European security to prevent Europe from re-militarizing. We protected Europeans from the Soviets but also protected the world from the Europeans. The US can no longer afford the luxury of a demilitarized Europe. What happened to Le Pen illustrates the dangers of European "democracies" if they regain military power.

As I posted on Eugyppius, it's morbidly fascinating that the "anti-fascists" have adopted overtly fascist techniques, such as systematically crushing the opposition. My fear is that we have two generations of Europeans who have never seen blood in the streets, so they are not afraid of it. They are likely to blunder into something they will regret.

Whenever the left complains about Democracy being threatened, it is only on occasions when the populace are against them. When they say "democracy" what they really mean, is Leftist ideology or agenda. If they can't get it at the ballot box, they will use any means necessary. Hysteria, threats, coercion, intimidation, extortion, and outright violence. Just look at the Tesla protests. The left loses the election but co-opts the peace with demonstrations and violence to intimidate and shout down the opposition and neuter and hamstring the political process through the courts. Same playbook. And talk about the Hitler parallels. Intimidation and coercion and then co-opt the courts to "legitimize' the coup.

Solid article, Alex. And I finally see signs of the TDS scales dropping from your eyes. But I still have some concerns: "When will the left realize these games undercut its claim to stand for democracy and the rule of law?" I assume this was a rhetorical/satirical question? The Left have made it abundantly clear for years now that their primary concern is implementing their globalist - socialist agenda at all costs, regardless how it makes them look or how antithetical this agenda is to freedom and democracy. While calling Trump "a threat to democracy" they have undermined ACTUAL democracy at every turn! You need to ignore their rhetoric and watch what they do. Their hypocrisy is not a bug, it's a feature. Go back and re-read 1984. It will all make sense.

I hear Sotomayer thinks judges need to be "fiercely independent". No, they need to administer justice (not partisan behavior) according to and limited by their role as defined by Congress and the Constitution. I read Federal District judges are not found in the Constitution but are created by Congress. Time for Congress to get something done.

To some extend, Congress can limit the scope of the judiciary - but be careful of what you wish for. There may come a time when judges are called on to rein in a Democrat President.

True. But Judges cannot go unchecked. These judges are Obama and Biden judges who have been carefully selected by the Left Democrats. The will of the people must be exerted through the Congress to contain judges who exceed their authority and are political activists instead of judges. Weren't they really invisible when our country was run by an incompetent who defied the SCOTUS.
