...but the nightmare is just beginning. This will be the summer of Hell as deep-staters and TDSers begin their scorched-earth tantrums. Again, not a Trump fan, but I won't tolerate deranged weirdos turn our republic into Botswana just to slay an imaginary "threat to democracy," especially since it is THEY who are embracing the fascisistic tactics of the old Soviet Union.

I like your comment, and I agree wholeheartedly. But I have one question. Suppose for a moment that in 2015, Trump had run as a Democrat and won. How would you have viewed his presidency? Would you have believed FOX News calling him a racist, misogynistic, dictator. Would his orange complexion and wild hair make you hate him? Would his mean Tweets in response to attacks enrage you? Or would you have seen that he truly loves this country and his policies were good for the nation? Do you see how perspective changes everything? Please consider voting for Trump in November.

In 2016 I was disgusted with both Hilary and Trump. I voted for the Libertarian candidate.

But I was appalled at the viciousness (not just the usual political BS), coming from democrats everywhere. At the same time, Trump proved himself a reasonably good and even-handed president.

I forgive anything he says about democrats and liberal media. THEY started it. The hate, the persecution deserves the response that Trump has given them.

Hey PaxAlto, here’s an idea of who’s behind this “threat to democracy” : https://unorthodoxy.substack.com/p/who-are-the-bad-guys

Most FEARED person on the planet of the DEEP state for sure. What ONE person could have still been standing through what the DS has thrown at T to this point, and it's not even June 1st yet. Seriously... 4 indictments in 4 differing jurisdiction for a man past 75. When has that ever occurred? None of these are occurring IF he was not running for President and EVERYone knows IT! So TELLING. The beauty of it all is the more they throw at him the more EMPOWERED he becomes.

Expand full comment

Yes I agree, most feared by far and rightfully so for DEEP state and Dems. Trump is not just another Republican presidential candidate - he has the ability to do what other candidates have not been capable of - he can be disruptive! He has no filter, says what he thinks (and usually says what others are thinking but don't say), he is a counter-puncher and never, ever backs down, but instead comes back harder. Trump will make changes quickly and effectively especially this time after having been president once since he knows how to do things and how to get things done. Also since he survived Russia-gate it will not be easy for them to pull something like that again.

And establishment politicians from both sides. He's not in on the deep-seated scam. That's why they all hate him.

The prosecution and defense have rested. Now the New York jury gets six days to listen to NPR, read the Times, and remember why bad Orange Man has to go jail-jail.

Perfect!

Tench - we are on the same page!

Gave the jury a week off? Is that so they can go home and read the NYT's, AP, The Atlantic, and other left leaning MSM outfits and make a decision that way? And then have a week to forget about everything actually said during the trial? Closing arguments should have tomorrow, and then the jury goes and deliberates. Which would take about 5 minutes!

Expand full comment

I hope the jurors read Ross Douthat's whole NYT column "Trial in Manhattan Probably Helps Trump", which Alex quoted from and was re-printed in my local California newspaper. Douthat also points out that American liberals offered Bill Clinton "tolerance, forgiveness and absolution" after his dirty laundry and sexual peccadilloes were aired. But then, double standards are nothing new for the Dems. I really appreciate Alex's sane coverage of this trial!

Right. But because the Judge is obviously bias they’d rather give them a week to let their family, friends, & neighbors and chance to pressure them or they can watch MSM orMSNBC & be convinced to take Trump out. It’s disgusting what they’re doing through our justice system. The left has no scruples . So now they’re saying the left is planning a coup if Trump wins. It’s crazy. We the people need to stay alert.

Gives TPTB a week to pressure the jurists for the correct decision…..or else.

The prosecution's star witness is not only a thief but a liar. The prosecution knew this before they charged Trump. Anyone with half a brain and no TDS can see there is no crime.

I really have to question whether the prosecution didn't know the high likelihood of Cohen performing exactly as he did. I have toyed with the idea that Bragg et al knew all along there was no hope of a conviction. Perhaps this whole thing was merely a ploy to keep Trump occupied and off the campaign trail as long as possible. Perhaps they knew Cohen would blow it up and that would be the excuse for the conviction failure (which they anticipated all along). In other words, it was just play acting so keep Trump out of the way for as long as possible. I think the only unexpected outcome was that it didn't prevent Trump from talking to his peeps publicly, they inadvertently made him appear a victim, and it massively backfired and gained him some undecided Independent voters, and maybe even a few Democrat voters who are disgusted with the whole charade.

I just wish all the players in this thing could be booted out of the legal profession for what they have done to damage our judicial system not only here but in the eyes of the world.

The process itself is the punishment even if Trump is acquitted. A fair judge would direct a verdict for the defense since it rests on the questionable testimony of a convicted felon, liar and admitted theif but unfortunately Trump is stuck with Juan Merchan. I'm retired after practicing law for 46 years, and I don't understand what the supposed crime is. Either I'm exceptionally dense or the "crime" is exceptionally vague.

Just like with Julian Assange - execution by process

Prosecution not sure either. All they know is 34 counts of some non issue. But it is against Trump so all is good.

The PROCESS has always been the punishment. Fortunately it's only EMPOWERED Trump as the WITCH hunt progressed. Don't think the DEEP state planned on that happening

I think they seriously want to convict him so Biden has the talking point of Trump being a convicted insurrectionist! I think that Jan6 was set up to try to keep Trump from ever running again. That didn’t work so plan B.

Expand full comment

If Trump is found guilty that gives Biden an excuse for not debating him. Of course the President can't be on the stage with a convicted felon.

Expand full comment

A cover for them if the jury comes back with a not guilty verdict. I did not think of that but it makes sense. They've kept him off the campaign trail and silenced him, mission accomplished.

Where are the ethical, moral and honest New Yorkers? Is there just one such person on the jury? Or are they all defined by their politics and hatred of Trump above all else? As much as I despise Joe Biden, in a cluster-f**k trial like this of Biden or his son, I know without a doubt I could not convict due to the obvious presence of massive reasonable doubt. If there is no doubt among the 12 jurors, what on earth is wrong with those people?

Trump Derangement Syndrome maybe?

If the former President is found guilty our entire judicial system becomes a horrible joke and no better than a Cuba or Venezuela. You don’t have to like or dislike the former President but if you love America and us supposedly being the beacon of freedom around the world a “not guilty” is truly the only right answer.

I 100% agree. I’m afraid if he’s convicted liberal judges won’t be afraid to do likewise. They’re doing it in Washington DC to J6 defendants. Not talking about the violent causing people. They are terrible & all these cases shouldn’t been in DC. My point is beware.

Trump is not as widely despised in New York as you think. Last time I was there I saw dock workers, truck drivers, and lots of other blue collar personnel openly sporting MAGA hats (black ones because, well, you know, New York).

This is terrifying. I have had to choose from limited drop down menus many times, often having to go with the closest fit. If one were to look at all those forms I have filed out, they would inevitably find different responses to similar questions. Terrifying to know that any DA could charge me with fraud based upon the choices offered by various software programs.

The Judge is smart enough not to order Trump to begin serving time immediately following his conviction, if that's how it goes.

I read somewhere that Trump is pretty good at getting voters up off the couch. Democrats have forgotten that angry voters are the very most likely ones to cast a ballot.

Eric Adams doesn't have enough cops to manage a couple hundred thousand Deplorables descending on Manhattan. And that presumes his cops would take any action against them anyway.

Again, It is possible "The Fix is In." A New York Jury is the wild card and Merchan is the fly in the soup as he is sure to try and bias those stalwart members with his instructions. For us Lay Persons, we are unsure as to the direction the law may be applied to a non-defined crime. Listening to the talking heads and lawyers plus on-air retired judges, his goose is cooked feathers and all.. Is there room for a few good men in that "Tribunal"?

You make some accusations against Attorney Costello, what is the basis? I follow the news pretty closely (hey, I'm here) and I'm not aware of it.

Alex said, "Neither Costello nor Cohen seem like particularly good witnesses." I'm not clear why Costello wasn't a good witness, other than that the judge admonished him for rolling his eyes and saying "Jeez" after one of Merchan's rulings. (Costello should have known better but Merchan overreacted.)

Expand full comment

The justice system is on trial here. Cohen could not be a worse witness, admitting to stealing from the Trump Organization. The other star witness wrote in a sworn statement that an affair never occurred. Couple all that with a biased prosecutor, judge and jury ... chaos should ensue. My money is this jury comes back with a guilty verdict. Of course that will have the opposite effect that the dumbass democrats think and will make Trump even more popular. However, that guilty verdict will basically being saying the US justice system is a complete joke ... of course we already know that.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say there will be a hung jury. All you need is one juror whose TDS goes into remission when faced with an obvious case of reasonable doubt.
