Facebook shares are getting crushed today, down almost 25%. The company’s value has fallen today by more than Boeing and General Motors are WORTH.
Why? For the first time ever, the number of Facebook users is shrinking. (The ridiculous rebranding to “Meta Platforms” probably doesn’t help.)

On the side, I do marketing and PR for small businesses. ALL advertising is now digital. There is no other media outside of social media. ALL marketing/PR jobs are social media jobs. Businesses put all their money in Facebook and Google ads. They aren't going to let them die. Even if shares drop to nothing and usage craters, businesses will still buy ads, because they believe there are no other avenues for them. Sort of like how CNN still has long term advertisers, even though they have no viewers.

Very true. I work in advertising and can attest to that. If you want to reach people to sell you product you MUST spend money on those hated platforms.
The only way advertisers would divert some of the advertising money away from the big censor-happy tech would be for the alternative platforms - Rumble, Parler etc, to grow big enough AND enable advertisers the same and similar features they currently get on Facebook et al... For example most advertisers it wouldn't be enough for Getrr to have massive audiences, they would also need to be able to serve ads to specific segments only, do retargeting etc.
Until then the big monster will continue to get fed by big advertising money.

Signs on trucks now appealing as many now have warm feelings for the truckers? The technology of how consumers get reached and communicated with is always evolving. Technology emerges and marketers rush in. Social media is just the latest example. Everyone is trying to figure out the next big thing. Zuck thinks its his metaverse. These next generations may be less materialistic in every way. Lots of posts about this on Substack and Twitter. Local buying could become the big new driver. If the big social medias are left behind by the users, the big ads wouldn't have many people to reach. they will have to change their marketing strategies nonetheless.
I agree, I enjoy substack better than other social medias now. I follow some really great writers here and the discussion is more lively and more interesting than just showing off their cute cats/holiday/new designer handbags like on other mainstream social media.

Today, I read an article about the ratings on Fox News, and more self-described Democrats watch that channel than watch either CNN or MSNBC. I just got booted off of Facebook two days ago - a concocted "security incident" and a request to retract/recant about 40 posts - comments - I'd made over the past three months deviating from the Official Narrative. No dice. I've been posting on Substack since September, putting links on my facebook page, so that's not the loss, but the real loss is contacts. I downloaded my account a few months back, so I can parse through that, but that leaves about 150 or so new ones. That's the way social media holds people in its iron grip - it makes real contact very difficult, and contact mediated by their platform very easy, so it becomes addictive. And their control and ability to nudge and coerce and shape becomes absolute, they can and do manipulate who sees your posts - and the posts you see.... it can be a very effective means of psychological warfare. And the only way to stop it is to get rid of facebook entirely, let it crash to the ground, and try to reconstruct contacts in real life, and that's the task I have ahead of me.
Unfortunately, Pandora's box has been opened. The electronically connected media is not going away. We will have to have find new ways to use it, in keeping with our traditional values. So far, Substack has stood strong. I think this is likely because there are no advertisers to go after, only writers and readers who pay for their subscriptions. But this is also the reason that it’s time to stand up for our convictions and prove that free speech not only has a place in modern society, it’s the lynchpin holding it all together.

No. Amazon Web Services is just a subsidiary of Amazon that offers computing services to many businesses and is not the same thing as the people who manage the domains and addresses on the web. That is ICANN, an American non-profit group of entities that control the domain names and addresses on the internet. The US govt. could take it over on the grounds of national security and control who can access the internet at all. AWS can only deny people access to THEIR servers. ICANN can deny groups access to the entire internet.

On FB censorship: I saw a post that showed FB telling the poster their post was blocked because it is "too popular." I thought it strange, as did the poster, until I started reading "Red Handed" by Schweizer. Turns out this is something the CCP does. If a post goes against what they like, they block it if it has too many following it. Stopping popularity in the USA would mean slow walking certain ideas even if the FB censors wouldn't just kill the person's account. The book also showed that Zuckerberg asked Xi at a WH function to name his child and how much Zuck admires Xi. If you use FB, STOP. You are supporting the incursion of the CCP.
This is important information. Slow walking ideas may be even more important than deplatforming an individual writer here or there. It means the aim is to control speech, which is different than censoring.
I hope they move to GAB which is the most free speech platform I have found. Several conservative politicians have moved there. I plan to be at the road cheering when they drive by in the USA.

It appears the block is at the main Amazon site but they don't block the links coming from their associates. No doubt is it more important to Amazon to have traffic driven to their site who may not typically come to Amazon as opposed to those who they know will come direclty. When I mentioned free speech in relation to Neil Young’s action trampling on Rogan’s right free speech on Twitter, I was given a lecture that the 1st Amendment only applies to the Goverment and I didn’t know the 1A. I explained that I studied Constitutional Law in law school, I never mentioned the 1A, free speech exists apart from the 1A, and the 1A protects free speech from the government, but that doesn’t mean our rights are not protected from individuals. She blocked me. Young’s actions likely also are actionable tortious interference if there are damages.

True, but the founders recognized it as a fundamental right, and our laws should always protect fundamental rights from infringement regardless of the infringer. (Is infringer a word? Is now!) I got off of it a year ago, and it's so much more fun to visit with people when you don't already know their every move because of FB! And the Christmas cards were more interesting this year, not having seen all of the pictures and heard all the stories already
Before FB there were online forums for like-minded people (I was part of one called Maestronet for violinists and one for Gaited Horse riders) and those forums were more than enough for me as far as finding friends to have activities with, etc. I hope they make a resurgence.
FB went from being a place to share original content (photos and words) to just one big garbage can of memes, hateful political posts, ads for things I've been tracked for via Amazon and Google, and Karens shaming others for masks and Covid behavior. I'm done.
Hearing a person's voice or seeing a person's face in person is so much more connecting than reading a text or facetime. My son spent a couple of weeks on an Air Force base working on technology and talked daily including Facetime with his wife and sons. But when he walked in the door afterwards it was a so much different experience of elation!

I deleted all my social media accounts (except Twitter) early in the scamdemic and cancelled my one MSM newspaper digital subscription. I now get my news primarily from Twitter, Substack, and various podcasts. I used to watch a local news affiliate on tv to get weather & traffic mostly but completely stopped watching that as well when I saw the nonstop fear propaganda.

I guess one's experience on Twitter depends on who they follow. I look for people who present well reasoned thoughts; particularly if those thoughts are independent of the mainstream narrative. I generally don't post my own tweets or engage with others directly.
I canceled Twitter when they banned Trump, I only use Facebook to check my kids school events - I am using alternative platforms like this one to communicate and learn. Facebook canceled the US Truckers page stating they were QANON and a terror group!

I went on fb on Monday to check out American trucker convoy page and I posted “A heartfelt thank you to all you truckers. I was permanently suspended from Twitter but Twitter will not let me close my account, I’ve tried everything to do it, & they won’t give me back any of my photos. They most likely keep all the suspended accounts on their books so it looks like they have many more subscribers than they actually do.
We will be seeing an evolution in "social media". That evolution will progress from the current centralized model (Facebook, Twitter, etc), which tyrannies just love, to a decentralized distributed model in which the users and content providers have the control. It is already happening and the market is figuring that out. Share prices reflect expectations of future earnings. The centralized model is destroying itself because the users/customers are moving to alternatives in the face of censorship. Substack is but one manifestation of that and the model will continue to evolve just as water finds its way around a dam or a virus mutates. That is why CNN and MSNBC are failing and the reason that the traditional networks are seen as less credible. That is why I pay for Alex Berenson's work and other independent journalists' work. I may not always agree with them but they actually do research and cite sources and use logic with their investigative reporting, something that is in very short supply.
I hope that's correct and that what's really happening right now isn't just the inevitable air coming out of a massive NASDAQ bubble that has been fueled thus far by cheap debt and financial engineering.

Someone on another channel questioned whether Neil Young even owned his own work. Many of the old guard and some large names are selling their bodies of work. So I had wondered if this was a convenient time for Neil Young and Joni Mitchell or their agents to pull it, get publicity and sell it. On the side, I do marketing and PR for small businesses. ALL advertising is now digital. There is no other media outside of social media. ALL marketing/PR jobs are social media jobs. Businesses put all their money in Facebook and Google ads. They aren't going to let them die. Even if shares drop to nothing and usage craters, businesses will still buy ads, because they believe there are no other avenues for them. Sort of like how CNN still has long term advertisers, even though they have no viewers.

The only way advertisers would divert some of the advertising money away from the big censor-happy tech would be for the alternative platforms - Rumble, Parler etc, to grow big enough AND enable advertisers the same and similar features they currently get on Facebook et al... For example most advertisers it wouldn't be enough for Getrr to have massive audiences, they would also need to be able to serve ads to specific segments only, do retargeting etc.
Until then the big monster will continue to get fed by big advertising money.

I just got booted off of Facebook two days ago - a concocted "security incident" and a request to retract/recant about 40 posts - comments - I'd made over the past three months deviating from the Official Narrative. No dice. I've been posting on Substack since September, putting links on my facebook page, so that's not the loss, but the real loss is contacts. I downloaded my account a few months back, so I can parse through that, but that leaves about 150 or so new ones. That's the way social media holds people in its iron grip - it makes real contact very difficult, and contact mediated by their platform very easy, so it becomes addictive. And their control and ability to nudge and coerce and shape becomes absolute, they can and do manipulate who sees your posts - and the posts you see.... it can be a very effective means of psychological warfare. And the only way to stop it is to get rid of facebook entirely, let it crash to the ground, and try to reconstruct contacts in real life, and that's the task I have ahead of me.
After a year off Facebook, I could tell you you will be in contact with your true friends and will not miss the "Facebook friends".

No. Amazon Web Services is just a subsidiary of Amazon that offers computing services to many businesses and is not the same thing as the people who manage the domains and addresses on the web. That is ICANN, an American non-profit group of entities that control the domain names and addresses on the internet. The US govt. could take it over on the grounds of national security and control who can access the internet at all. AWS can only deny people access to THEIR servers. ICANN can deny groups access to the entire internet.

On FB censorship: I saw a post that showed FB telling the poster their post was blocked because it is "too popular." I thought it strange, as did the poster, until I started reading "Red Handed" by Schweizer. Turns out this is something the CCP does. If a post goes against what they like, they block it if it has too many following it. Stopping popularity in the USA would mean slow walking certain ideas even if the FB censors wouldn't just kill the person's account. The book also showed that Zuckerberg asked Xi at a WH function to name his child and how much Zuck admires Xi. If you use FB, STOP. You are supporting the incursion of the CCP.
This is important information. Slow walking ideas may be even more important than deplatforming an individual writer here or there. It means the aim is to control speech, which is different than censoring.

It appears the block is at the main Amazon site but they don't block the links coming from their associates. No doubt is it more important to Amazon to have traffic driven to their site who may not typically come to Amazon as opposed to those who they know will come direclty. Though I have run across messed up stuff like pictures of jars of olives with the heading they remove cat fur.

When I mentioned free speech in relation to Neil Young’s action trampling on Rogan’s right free speech on Twitter, I was given a lecture that the 1st Amendment only applies to the Goverment and I didn’t know the 1A. I explained that I studied Constitutional Law in law school, I never mentioned the 1A, free speech exists apart from the 1A, and the 1A protects free speech from the government, but that doesn’t mean our rights are not protected from individuals. She blocked me. Young’s actions likely also are actionable tortious interference if there are damages.

well, I believe that the govt, FB, Google, all the rest ARE guilty of violating the 1st Amendment. The private corporations are doing the direct bidding of the government. These ARE all govt infringements on the constitution.
True, but the founders recognized it as a fundamental right, and our laws should always protect fundamental rights from infringement regardless of the infringer. (Is infringer a word? Is now!) We might not be able to prove the corps are doing the govt’s bidding without a paper trail. And freedom of speech does not mean that I’m free to say what I want on a platform.

I got off of it a year ago, and it's so much more fun to visit with people when you don't already know their every move because of FB! And the Christmas cards were more interesting this year, not having seen all of the pictures and heard all the stories already
Before FB there were online forums for like-minded people (I was part of one called Maestronet for violinists and one for Gaited Horse riders) and those forums were more than enough for me as far as finding friends to have activities with, etc. I hope they make a resurgence.
FB went from being a place to share original content (photos and words) to just one big garbage can of memes, hateful political posts, ads for things I've been tracked for via Amazon and Google, and Karens shaming others for masks and Covid behavior. I'm done.
Hearing a person's voice or seeing a person's face in person is so much more connecting than reading a text or facetime. My son spent a couple of weeks on an Air Force base working on technology and talked daily including Facetime with his wife and sons. But when he walked in the door afterwards it was a so much different experience of elation!
Sane people have had their fill of entitled parasites running amok. The collapse in these businesses will be satisfying to watch. Hopefully, their corporate boards & executives are swept into the dustbin of history.
I deleted all my social media accounts (except Twitter) early in the scamdemic and cancelled my one MSM newspaper digital subscription. I now get my news primarily from Twitter, Substack, and various podcasts. I used to watch a local news affiliate on tv to get weather & traffic mostly but completely stopped watching that as well when I saw the nonstop fear propaganda.
ugh how can you stand twitter. I get so angry with all of the vile things people say on there. (I don't have an account - I just lurk on there "anonymously" until they block me)
I guess one's experience on Twitter depends on who they follow. I look for people who present well reasoned thoughts; particularly if those thoughts are independent of the mainstream narrative. I generally don't post my own tweets or engage with others directly.
I canceled Twitter when they banned Trump, I only use Facebook to check my kids school events - I am using alternative platforms like this one to communicate and learn. Facebook canceled the US Truckers page stating they were QANON and a terror group!

that's the one problem about not being on FB - the school only posts on there, the local police and newspaper only post on there. it's frustrating. a lot of small businesses only have their company information on there too and no webpage

I went on fb on Monday to check out American trucker convoy page and I posted “A heartfelt thank you to all you truckers. I am hopeful that your voices and actions will prevail where others have been ignored. I will go to dc and support you!” And fb banned me for that post. Is this even America anymore! They have taken down the trucker page too. I did contest my ban and they reinstated me but not the point. Never should of been banned in the first place

I was permanently suspended from Twitter but Twitter will not let me close my account, I’ve tried everything to do it, & they won’t give me back any of my photos. They most likely keep all the suspended accounts on their books so it looks like they have many more subscribers than they actually do.

We will be seeing an evolution in "social media". That evolution will progress from the current centralized model (Facebook, Twitter, etc), which tyrannies just love, to a decentralized distributed model in which the users and content providers have the control. It is already happening and the market is figuring that out. Share prices reflect expectations of future earnings. The centralized model is destroying itself because the users/customers are moving to alternatives in the face of censorship. Substack is but one manifestation of that and the model will continue to evolve just as water finds its way around a dam or a virus mutates. That is why CNN and MSNBC are failing and the reason that the traditional networks are seen as less credible. That is why I pay for Alex Berenson's work and other independent journalists' work. I may not always agree with them but they actually do research and cite sources and use logic with their investigative reporting, something that is in very short supply.
I hope that's correct and that what's really happening right now isn't just the inevitable air coming out of a massive NASDAQ bubble that has been fueled thus far by cheap debt and financial engineering.
