May we see Facebook, google, and YouTube go the way of MySpace in our lifetimes.

I love it. A world without Facebook and Twitter is a good start. I haven't been on YouTube in a while because Rumble and Bitchute have a tremendous amount of conservative content. YouTube is only hurting themselves by silencing conservatives.

As I recall, Facebook was starting to lose members just before 2020. The shutdowns may have saved them. Anyone else remember the 2019 articles expressing concern about Facebook's and Instagram's declining downloads?

Expand full comment

I stopped using facebook in January 2021, when it became clear that they were just an arm of the Democrat Party. I still use Instagram, but I've found that's 90% less political than Facebook. Honestly, if you have friends who are moderate/conservative, get them to delete their accounts.

In talking to people, I've found that many people stay on their for the "groups" function and because they use messenger. I haven't missed the groups at all and Facebook allows you to use messenger if you disable your account instead of deleting it.

We should organize a "disable your facebook account" campaign on here. Network effects are fantastic for a company on the way up, and brutal on the way down. If we only got a few hundred thousand people to log off facebook, it could create a ripple effect that would take the whole platform down.

Just a thought.

Expand full comment

Interesting. I stopped using it Jan 2019. However I didn't know others were dropping off.

Expand full comment

Facebook has a generational market. I don't see how it competes with the platforms that have targeted the zoomers in the coming years.

Expand full comment

Not going to happen. They are an integral part of digital-financial complex that is calling the shots.

Expand full comment

Nah. Parallel economies are already killing them. FB/TW/IG won't show you, but as someone in marketing, they're posting first-time declines. They've pissed off the olds and the kids prefer Chinese surveillance apps.

Expand full comment

I left Facebook, personally and professionally, three months ago. Visits to my sites have increased by 18%, over the same period last year. Corporate-enforced group-think should create enormous opportunities for people who want to create honest content in open forums.

Expand full comment

Yep, and it's pretty refreshing how fast it happened. Gato malo considers leaving the FB/TW/IG tent the best thing that happened to his message, and the dude doesn't even charge for his content.

The FB/TW/IG ecosystem (I always name all three to remind everyone, forever, that they're the same company) is a lowest-common-denominator, quantity-over-quality kind of cesspool for digital marketing. There's a big market, but it's a bottom-feeder kind of thing. The relatively dumb people that are easy marks are also cheap as hell and addicted to free- not a sustainable strategy.

Expand full comment

How Ironic! I just tweeted Gato's latest entry comparing all cause mortality between vaccinated and unvaccinated in the UK:)

Curses! Completely refuted by a single self-reported data point!

Expand full comment

Wi so long to go?

Expand full comment

That's interesting. To what do you attribute the increased traffic (besides just 'leaving FB?'

Expand full comment

I think it's something like saying, "I'm only available, from now on, at my new (or long existing) location." When people understand they won't be able to check in on you at the shorthand version of your brand, (social media), they are forced back to your site if they really were your customer in the first place. When we were heavily on social media, we only collected a few new emails a day. When we announced we were leaving, we picked up 600 new emails in one day, and we routinely get 15 email joins a day now.

Expand full comment

You also have to pay $$$$$ if you want Twitter/FB etc to put your content in people's feeds - its a scam....

Expand full comment

Thanks for taking the time to explain. From my perspective, it's interesting b/c I have a food blog and have increasingly come to the conclusion that keeping up with Google's algo and generating organic search is the critical thing. On a personal level, I have to wonder who has time to run thru all these Insta and twitter postings since they all are ultimately replicating the same info. Again, thanks and good luck w/ your site.

Expand full comment

I agree. I got banned from IG because I stated that we need to look at COVID antigens for those of us who have had it in lieu of a vax. That ticked someone off.

Expand full comment

It's so bizarre. I have antiodiesb and the only time I was sick was April 2020 with a month long cough, no fever, minor loss of smell for a few days. At the time I thought that it couldn't possibly be covid because you were supposed to fall over dead if you had it. Tested in March 2021, so nearly a year later and antibodies are robust. So why no discussion about this?

Expand full comment

Hail to you who’ve had it. I’m jealous. I got the vax in March to be able to go to Italy for a cycling tour. My antibody count last week was 20. No vax left in me. Now I have nightmares of what might happen to me down the road. Fuck the booster.

Expand full comment

I think the odds are in your favor. There's a lot more to immunity than current antibodies counts. As I understand it, the body doesn't typically keep making huge numbers of antibodies to something that isn't there, that would be wasteful. But it still remembers what it saw and is ready to crank them out much quicker than at first exposure.

Get healthy, make sure you've got *higher* than "sufficient" vitamin d levels, I think you'll be ok.

Truth is, I'm wondering about people reporting such high levels of abs for so long. It makes me wonder if they're still reacting to something - but that's just me thinking out loud, I don't know a lot about it.

Expand full comment

My worst symptom was a six week long cough. I coughed so hard I strained my ribs. But when I lost my taste and smell I was positive I had it. I’ve never had my antibodies checked but I had it. We need to be counted. And I’ve been exposed three or four times since then to other people who have tested positive. I got nothing. I’m not even worried about it.

Expand full comment

because the vaccine doesn't work. Previous infection is up to 20x more effective than the ineffective vaccine. The more previously-infected people get vaccinated, the more the vaccine looks like it actually works.

Mun's right, at least in the short term. People like Alex Berenson are part of the problem because, even though he has a growing following on Substack, he continues to whine about his Twitter problems. As long as Twitter has Alex Berenson times 100 million, then Twitter will be a force to be reckoned with.

Expand full comment

Nah. Alex is like a lot of people for whom TW/FB/IG was their first and biggest platform; they became addicted to the scale of it and are going through withdrawal. They're deplatforming and discouraging too many countercultural voices, and show no sign of slowing down; they're committing slow suicide. The real numbers don't lie.

Actually they deserve to lose their broadcast license for spewing lies and polluting the public "airwaves". Saint Reagan torpedoing the "fairness doctrine" was the beginning of the end for broadcast journalism. Not to overly romanticize their predecessors in Capitalist media, but Murrow, Cronkite, Paul Manning, et al were gems of probity by comparison to the empty suits of today.

Expand full comment

In a sane world, of course you are correct. Unfortunately the so-called fairness doctrine was a means for the Left to hamstring Talk Radio and every Right of Center broadcaster of which there were hardly any. The game plan of the Left has always been to try to stifle debate under the guise of fairness while protecting their turf from any similar incursion. The good news today is that those who wish to obtain views contrary to the dictates of the MSM —like those expressed here—can do so. It remains, sadly, an uphill battle.

There is so much going on behind the scenes of this pandemic (and our fading democracy) I don’t think most folks can wrap their heads around it all. I have a close friend who has been digging into all of this for nearly 30 years and I use to tolerate some of his rants until I took a long trip down the rabbit hole and got shock after shock the deeper I went and the more I uncovered. I can’t help but feel that the only way to bring an end to this is through revolution. They (those now calling the shots, Fauci, Gates, Schwab, Pharma, Our elected officials, NWO, etc., etc.) just aren’t taking us seriously enough and have so much money to push their horrific agenda. Until we can gather a true majority, with open eyes, we are destined for more and more insanity until we have allowed our freedoms to slip through our fingers OR we take a stand!

Some think it is an anachronism, but the pressure relief valve for all this craziness in America is the Article V - Constitutional Convention of States. The Substack CEO is the anti-Zuckerberg, the anti-JackDorsey. He "gets" the importance of the 1st Amendment that ALL speech --even unpopular speech or "wrongspeech"--- is worth defending because it's important to have a forum to discuss issues because, for example, yesterday's conspiracy theories or "misinformation" could turn out to be fact. Major respect to that CEO and to Substack. May they disrupt the traditional media model (like the MSM) and bring truth to reporting back.

CNN and MSNBC or any of the networks these days get their fragile feelings hurt when they hear of any competing venue for thought or perspective on pertinent issues of the day. They and other political propaganda outlets masquerading as media think anything that is not in line with the (mostly) Democrat party’s extremists favored narrative of the time is “mis/disinformation”. They are so absolutely infuriated when they cannot control or silence someone offering an opposing view. Additionally they are even more outraged when they see those people with opposing views having an audience. My only regret is I clicked on that link and read that story and gave CNN a viewing. I cannot believe I used to watch them when I was younger. I would equate them to a toilet bowl but I think a toilet bowl at least has relevancy. Glad Substack has not folded and gone full tilt leftist like Reddit, twitter and Fb. I pray they do not ever go that route and more people flee the thought police. It’s interesting so called media are always so concerned about people who are “wrong“ having a platform but they haven’t said or done anything that proves to me they were ever “correct” enough on anything they ever spewed out over the years under the guise as news reporting.
