As far back as last summer, the Republicans on the House Foreign Affairs Committee revealed that they had uncovered strong evidence suggesting Peter Daszak was the public face of a CCP disinformation campaign designed to suppress public discussion about a potential lab leak.
“It’s incredibly concerning that Peter Daszak, an American scientist who has taken millions of dollars from the U.S. government, took directions from the CCP to persuade the American people a lab leak was nothing more than a ‘conspiracy theory."
It’s one thing for Daszak to have helped engineer a scandal of this magnitude, but it’s another thing entirely to say that he worked directly with the Chinese Communist Party in doing so. The guy is a massive scumbag, and the fact that his EcoHealth Alliance is still being funded is absolutely insane.
I’m agreeing with most of the comments and Berenson, but I want to add a slightly different angle. What if they are doing this to make Daszak the fall guy for all of this, so that Collins, Fauci and gang can get away with all of it???
These people are not stupid. Collins is much smarter than Fauci and they need a fall guy(s) for all of this. Hardly anyone knows who Peter Daszak and Ralph Baric are. They would be the perfect fall guys for all of this.

Daszak is the Bobulinski of evading the moratorium on GoF research, only Fauci and team are smart enough, and corrupt enough, to make sure he stays in the money so he never has a reason to expose exactly what went on. This isn't the identifying a fall guy - this is them making good on the commitment they made to Daszak if he kept his mouth shut. I promise he has all the receipts on them specifically and directly breaking the law to fund GoF, but as long as he continues receiving direct funding (and massive incentives on the back-end) he'll stay quiet.
Ironically Bobulinski might have taught all of us that no one actually cares about breaking laws as long as the NYT's tells them not too, but perhaps when you've made tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars selling a "cure" (that isn't a cure) to a disease your research created you're a little more worried about it going public than Hunter Biden ever was...

Cheryl, grants from the NIH go through a thorough review process, usually with outside scientists reviewing the grant proposal. The individuals involved in this particular review should be identifiable fairly easily. I would ask for an accounting of their reasoning BEFORE condemnation.

You are wrong. In the NIH, the reviews are quite rigorous. What this exposes, I believe, is that there are scientists who really believe as members of the trustworthy elite, they and their decisions can be trusted. Thus, this is a bigger problem: elite scientists are not convinced that even worse viruses could somehow escape, no matter by what means, accidental or intentional.
