I think what has happened in Canada and probably most other first nation countries is the ruling class has changed the definition of rights to one of privileges. You don't need to be vaxxed to fly but you will need a mask. Better check which protocols the country, you want to go to, has. Many of them won't let you in if you're not vaxxed and others make you anosolate for 2 weeks.

Richard Daley, Jr. & company knew the LINE, they were just mob (in the old sense, mob with rules and their own sense of "morality", meaning the citizens were not targets of their "internal affairs" or score settling. The city was kept as clean and peaceful as was possible in a big city, and tourists from the rest of Illinois were certainly not frightened to go there to shop, enjoy the fine restaurants, and spend time in the fabulous museums and attractions. As with all our great cities, it's so very very VERY sad what it has become.

We live just outside Seattle city limits and haven't set foot in the downtown core in years. Too filthy, too dangerous. It's a shame, too, because it was once a great city for culture, restaurants, and shopping. Can't imagine it will be that way again in my lifetime.
I live just outside Vancouver in British Columbia and it has become a disaster regarding crime, the homeless, and a housing market that is way beyond the average persons ability to buy one. I now avoid this city. It too, was a beautiful vibrant city and I doubt it will ever be again.
I feel so bad about Vancouver as well. We spent many wonderful long weekends there over more than 40 years, and now I suspect we may never visit again. So, so sad.
Actually, Detroit is not quite the same as the other Dem cities. The mayor Duggan is a pretty sensible guy for a Democrat. He has a business background and seems to be able to play nicely with the different groups in the city especially the black pastors who have a lot of citizen power. He’s our 1st white mayor in a while but the black population has embraced him. In the last election he beat his black contender by a wide margin. Crime has not gone up significantly, police are pretty well respected, especially during BLM riots when Chief Craig took no bs from agitators. Homelessness is not a problem like in a lot of cities probably because of the winter weather. Restaurants are doing pretty well, no stupid vaccine mandates. Sport teams here all have new stadiums, no masks required or vax as far as I know. Truthfully, the worst thing about Michigan is Witchmer. She is pushing CRT in schools and she LOVED her emergency powers during Covid. We live about 45 minutes from Detroit but we go quite often. Detroit has always been a gritty, working class city that has suffered from financial difficulties/inept bureaucrats so we have actually seen an improvement over the last 15ish years. A big player in Detroit has been Rock Financial so there has been a lot of investment in infrastructure, hotels, housing etc so that has helped.

We the people desire (apparently ?) over all else, establishing an moronic "elite" class to "look after us" so we could abdicate all of our responsibilities of over sight: over sight of our schools, our local parks, of our city council, our over sight responsibility to TRACE and note the records of our judges, our D.A.'s and other public SERVANTS. And, we are not even interested in the "track records" of who we put in charge of OUR LIVES ? ? In regard to the "pandemic" even, just look at the people who told us "just 15 days" to turn this tide, just "wear a cotton mask", just DISINFECT your groceries and your mail before touching, just FILL the outdoor facilities (like skate parks" with sand so young people will STAY INSIDE. I think what has happened in Canada and probably most other first nation countries is the ruling class has changed the definition of rights to one of privileges. You don't need to be vaxxed to fly but you will need a mask. Better check which protocols the country, you want to go to, has. Many of them won't let you in if you're not vaxxed and others make you anosolate for 2 weeks.

Richard Daley, Jr. & company knew the LINE, they were just mob (in the old sense, mob with rules and their own sense of "morality", meaning the citizens were not targets of their "internal affairs" or score settling. The city was kept as clean and peaceful as was possible in a big city, and tourists from the rest of Illinois were certainly not frightened to go there to shop, enjoy the fine restaurants, and spend time in the fabulous museums and attractions. As with all our great cities, it's so very very VERY sad what it has become.

We live just outside Seattle city limits and haven't set foot in the downtown core in years. Too filthy, too dangerous. It's a shame, too, because it was once a great city for culture, restaurants, and shopping. Can't imagine it will be that way again in my lifetime.
I live just outside Vancouver in British Columbia and it has become a disaster regarding crime, the homeless, and a housing market that is way beyond the average persons ability to buy one. I now avoid this city. It too, was a beautiful vibrant city and I doubt it will ever be again.

Actually, Detroit is not quite the same as the other Dem cities. The mayor Duggan is a pretty sensible guy for a Democrat. He has a business background and seems to be able to play nicely with the different groups in the city especially the black pastors who have a lot of citizen power. He’s our 1st white mayor in a while but the black population has embraced him. In the last election he beat his black contender by a wide margin. Crime has not gone up significantly, police are pretty well respected, especially during BLM riots when Chief Craig took no bs from agitators. Homelessness is not a problem like in a lot of cities probably because of the winter weather. Restaurants are doing pretty well, no stupid vaccine mandates. Sport teams here all have new stadiums, no masks required or vax as far as I know. Truthfully, the worst thing about Michigan is Witchmer. She is pushing CRT in schools and she LOVED her emergency powers during Covid. We live about 45 minutes from Detroit but we go quite often. Detroit has always been a gritty, working class city that has suffered from financial difficulties/inept bureaucrats so we have actually seen an improvement over the last 15ish years. A big player in Detroit has been Rock Financial so there has been a lot of investment in infrastructure, hotels, housing etc so that has helped.
