The demonstrators face a strategic nightmare. They're fighting against laws NOT aimed at them. They have no choice but to try to make ICE officers arrest rather than ignore them.
Parallels exist with Oxford, Mississippi, in 1962. Kennedy sent federal marshals to enforce the admission of James Meredith to Ole Miss. Riots followed, and the marshals received no protection from Governor Ross Barnett. The governor activated the National Guard. Kennedy quickly federalized the Mississippi National Guard. He made it clear to the governor that the guard was under federal control ( I hope Tampon Tim understands this)and flew in the 101st Airborne Division. Kennedy had 30,000 troops on the ground in a city with fewer people. The message was clear. Local authorities have an obligation to aid federal law enforcement. FEDERAL LAW IS SUPREME. The alternative? FAFO

Ignoring the rest such as blocking traffic, bricks, frozen water bottles is also disingenuous. Protesting is fine, but these people are doing more.
They are often doing things that can cause serious injury. They are also deliberately trying to damage federal taxpayer paid property such as cars. They should at least be required to pay for vehicles they damage. They deny that the ICE officers are law enforcement officers. If a person resists arrest from a police officer, they would usually be charged with resisting arrest. At the very least, the protesters who cross the line of acceptable protest behavior should be held accountable for the unlawful aspects of their behavior.
The especially disturbing aspect of Minneapolis is that the Frey and Waltz in particular are fomenting this behavior and it seems like they should be held responsible in some way for not cooperating with federal law enforcement. In the non-sanctuary cities and red cities this stuff isn't happening and ICE can conduct their searches without the idiocy of the mostly crazed female protesters. Seems like people should be questioning why this is the case.
As for Ilhan Omar, she has really gotten active fomenting protests and I can only conclude it is to divert from her involvement in the Somali fraud situation. She's a disgrace, she's dishonest and she should resign. It's shameful that she is a member of our Congress.
Omar keeps griping about "holding people accountable." In this case, ICE. She has nary a thought of "holding people accountable" for the Somali fraud. Her lack of self-awareness is stunning. Surely, Minnesota Democrats – even the cat ladies with their whistles – can vote for better than her!

I think some of the less active protestors (particularly in marches) are retired people living on fixed incomes, who are worried about the cost of living so if someone will pay them $100 or more to march or stand a round for two hours, they'll do it. regardless of the cause. I think that's why so many older folks are seen at these things. They have the time and they need the money.
There is a young Independent journalist on YouTube Nate Friedman, who has been exposing these professional protesters. Almost all of them are over the age of 60. He traced some of their backgrounds and found that they have long histories of support for socialism and communism. They believe in the protests, it's not a hobby for them or pocket money. They are extremely nasty when they are exposed. One gray haired protester saw Nate and kept repeating, "You're still a piece of sh!t Nate. He has exposed this woman for being at No Kings, Free Palestine, and now Anti-Ice protests. They are usually the ones wearing the neon vests. They follow Nate and try to drown him out when he's talking to someone. They tell fellow protesters not to talk to him.
I'm thinking of the ones standing at the side of the road, just holding signs. The more active are true believers in anarchy or nihilism. Their lives have been a disappointment to them (because they had no sense of gratitude for what they had or have because it came so easy) so now they want to burn it all down. I wonder how many of them have grandkids.
The ones standing on the side of the road peacefully don't get paid. The active ones are recruited and paid. They are instructed in how to obstruct, attack, burn and destroy. Rise and Resist is a protest organization in NYC. They recruit online and they hand out pamphlets at their protests. They hold training sessions on how to protest. I have grandkids and I want to see America continue to exist.

Hold up. There are a majority of great people in Minnesota. We didn't coin the phrase "Minnesota nice" for nothing. Most of the state votes red (no different than in California). I can't tell you how much hope it gives me each time I see Trump post that they are not giving up on Minnesota. I'm with you here in Illinois. Why we live in a north shore suburb of Chicago, I cannot tell you except we are almost 80 and have lived here all our lives. It is distressing to see my own friends and relatives vote against their own interests and I know that has happened. But I'm sorry to say that Trump didn't win in Illinois, we are too far gone.

It seems like most people sit and do nothing unless they are personally affected, either through a crime committed against them or by living near an area that is a problem. Most people are outside problem areas and just watch this stuff on TV every night. How many Minnesotans are angry and disturbed by what they see happening in their state? Are they speaking up in any meaningful way? Are they upset enough to make organized attempts to change their pathetically corrupt and inept leadership?
Most people have something to lose. These protesters have nothing to lose.
Most people have kids, jobs, home payments etc. Working hard everyday to pay the bills and keep life moving forward. If we, the working people, stop working to go down and face off with protesters nothing gets done and we all will fall behind. We relied on voting for good candidates who supposedly are working on our behalf. Well that is just not what's happening any more and it has been that way for decades. accountability has been lost. consequences are no longer there.
So how do we fix this? Do I stop working along with all the other reasonable people, head down to the town square, where the unrelenting hordes of people who want everything for free are at? If that happens it will get real ugly real fast and then what do we do? Voting don't work, ignoring them don't work, keeping your head down does not work, becoming a politician seems like it would be extremely frustrating to say the least.
Not enough good people, who want to make a real difference, have taken positions in politics. It has to happen enmasse not (1) here (2) there. You need 10-12 people working together, in every town, to make the changes we need done.
What works for the majority is what we need. Not what works for the extreme minority of people who want free stuff.
We have to become less selfish and sacrifice more for our community and society. I am willing but find me another 9-10 people who are willing to do it and find another group who will support my family while I am gone.

The "paid protestor" argument is pretty weak. As a Twin Cities resident I can tell you that many many people are just totally activated, sympathetic to the cause, they have flexible work schedules (work from home laptop warriors) or retired or are doing this stuff on their free time. I can name about 15 friends/acquaintances who fit this description. They are also all well above middle class (so easier to have a flexible schedule or be retired).
If you're trying to say it's all organic, for me that's a hard sell. Are they all pitching in $ to their little collective to have their signs made, or is it coming from outside? Are the organizers and trainers being paid? Maybe the protestors aren't receiving an hourly wage, but... are they receiving other forms of compensation and reimbursement? Meals? Gas money?
The recent life story of Renee Good seems strange to me. I concede it may be b/c I don't know anyone like her. She moved from Colorado to MN and settled there with one of her three children solely b/c she found like-minded people there? Who paid for her move?

I have friends going to these trainings. Yes those trainers are paid by someone - I'm sure they are non profits. But I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of participants in the protests and the observers are not paid themselves. It is so easy to organize online now. My neighborhood Facebook group has been constant posting since the shooting about how to help. Which signal groups to join, how to sign up to deliver food/diapers etc to immigrants too afraid to leave their homes, people spotting possible ICE vehicles and posting about it. And I'm not even in one of the more activisty neighborhoods in St. Paul.

In my small very liberal, very blue area, there was an anti-ICE protest in the town square this past weekend. It was clearly anti-ICE but also some attention being paid to the life of the young woman who was killed. I would say about twice as many pro-Trump protestors were on the other side of the town square. Fortunately, there were no incidents. Much to my non-surprise, when I read the newspaper accounts, all the photos were anti-ICE protestors - and not one word was said about the other side. A story for another day.
Nevertheless, I would say about 40% of the signs in the anti-ICE protests were on the theme of REST IN PISS. It is so discordant and incongruent what these leftist protests are even trying to say or do........We are here protesting the death of a young woman and everyone has REST IN PISS signs and what the hell are we even talking about anymore? My Vietnam era protesting hippy liberal parents would be so ashamed of the incoherence right now.

I suspect that the reason these protests come off as incoherent, is that they dare not express the principle that they're intended to support -- open borders -- because it is so patently dangerous. If you're not for open borders, then why speak up against deporting people who are here without authorization? And yet, if they came out and said so, they'd soon have to deal with questions such as what they would do if Putin started sending waves of "refugees" into Alaska, or if Muslim organizations arranged for millions of sharia supporters to enter from the southern border.

Doctor, you are right to appreciate the complexity of the mess. My comment above speaks of the desire (often but not always unconscious) for good martyrs who become symbolic if the justice of whatever cause is being promoted. Alex is right, too, in suggesting the rhetoric of the lawmen and Trump should be as moderate as possible. But that doesn't mean the transgressions and/or stupid mistakes of the now-dead activist should be soft-pedaled. The MSM, where I once worked, is acting to the detriment of the country but the alt media, like almost all of us here on SubStack, can be forthright without being nasty. Don't give them any more martyrs. Describe the system they seem to be supporting. However, the moment they begin using vehicles (deadly weapon) to interfere, or assaulting ICE officers to prevent arrests, they are now using the threat of violence to affect political change (their stated goal), and that is textbook terrorism. In that moment, they have crossed the Rubicon and the consequences will be staggering.
Look, there's a simple reason why the anti-ICE protests are so ugly: they're being coached to be that way.
Start with a wide availability of bodies -- the Left's protests depend on gaggles of un- or under-employed people showing up (you rarely see large protests by center-right folks, and that's because we have families, jobs, and lives). Then whip them into a frenzy with rhetoric (preferably by saying that the other side is "literally a bunch of Nazis" as often as possible).
And, ta-da, we see the result: Renee Good, useful idiot. An urban/suburban mother who becomes convinced that the best way to spend a weekday is by following ICE agents around and disrupting their work as much as she can.
The problem is that the anti-ICE protests may yet get their George Floyd moment. They were hoping to get it with Good, but fortunately that didn't do it. But it's far too early to be doing any end-zone celebrations yet.
Alex, you have been wrong on a couple of big calls recently (e.g. Bombing the Iran nuke facilities), and you are wrong on this call as well. Ignoring the tantrums of these misguided toxically empathetic Cosplay social warriors will have the same effect as ignoring the tantrums of an actual toddler on a sugar high in a Walmart. Each and every time one of them crosses the line from lawful protest to unlawful activity (throwing rocks, using cars as weapons, actively interfering with lawful immigration enforcement, etc.) arrest them, detain them and prosecute them Federally. Do it professionally and record it all on camera and let the public decide who is right or wrong.

Quick counterpoint: I get the argument for ignoring the protesters (to starve them of drama).
But from years of talking to cops, I've learned that once people realize interference carries minimal/no consequence, they almost always escalate. Boundaries get tested and situations become unstable. And the likelihood someone gets hurt goes way up (including the protesters themselves).
For this reason, I've come to believe hard, clear deterrence upfront is the more humane tactic.

They are often doing things that can cause serious injury. They are also deliberately trying to damage federal taxpayer paid property such as cars. They should at least be required to pay for vehicles they damage. They deny that the ICE officers are law enforcement officers. If a person resists arrest from a police officer, they would usually be charged with resisting arrest. At the very least, the protesters who cross the line of acceptable protest behavior should be held accountable for the unlawful aspects of their behavior.
The especially disturbing aspect of Minneapolis is that the Frey and Waltz in particular are fomenting this behavior and it seems like they should be held responsible in some way for not cooperating with federal law enforcement. In the non-sanctuary cities and red cities this stuff isn't happening and ICE can conduct their searches without the idiocy of the mostly crazed female protesters. Seems like people should be questioning why this is the case.
As for Ilhan Omar, she has really gotten active fomenting protests and I can only conclude it is to divert from her involvement in the Somali fraud situation. She's a disgrace, she's dishonest and she should resign. It's shameful that she is a member of our Congress.

I think some of the less active protestors (particularly in marches) are retired people living on fixed incomes, who are worried about the cost of living so if someone will pay them $100 or more to march or stand a round for two hours, they'll do it. regardless of the cause. I think that's why so many older folks are seen at these things. They have the time and they need the money.
There is a young Independent journalist on YouTube Nate Friedman, who has been exposing these professional protesters. Almost all of them are over the age of 60. He traced some of their backgrounds and found that they have long histories of support for socialism and communism. They believe in the protests, it's not a hobby for them or pocket money. They are extremely nasty when they are exposed. One gray haired protester saw Nate and kept repeating, "You're still a piece of sh!t Nate. He has exposed this woman for being at No Kings, Free Palestine, and now Anti-Ice protests. They are usually the ones wearing the neon vests. They follow Nate and try to drown him out when he's talking to someone. They tell fellow protesters not to talk to him.
I'm thinking of the ones standing at the side of the road, just holding signs. The more active are true believers in anarchy or nihilism. Their lives have been a disappointment to them (because they had no sense of gratitude for what they had or have because it came so easy) so now they want to burn it all down. I'm with you here in Illinois. Why we live in a north shore suburb of Chicago, I cannot tell you except we are almost 80 and have lived here all our lives. It seems like most people sit and do nothing unless they are personally affected, either through a crime committed against them or by living near an area that is a problem. Most people are outside problem areas and just watch this stuff on TV every night. How many Minnesotans are angry and disturbed by what they see happening in their state? Are they speaking up in any meaningful way? Are they upset enough to make organized attempts to change their pathetically corrupt and inept leadership?
Most people have something to lose. These protesters have nothing to lose.
Most people have kids, jobs, home payments etc. Working hard everyday to pay the bills and keep life moving forward. If we, the working people, stop working to go down and face off with protesters nothing gets done and we all will fall behind. We relied on voting for good candidates who supposedly are working on our behalf. Well that is just not what's happening any more and it has been that way for decades. accountability has been lost. consequences are no longer there.
So how do we fix this? Do I stop working along with all the other reasonable people, head down to the town square, where the unrelenting hordes of people who want everything for free are at? If that happens it will get real ugly real fast and then what do we do? Voting don't work, ignoring them don't work, keeping your head down does not work, becoming a politician seems like it would be extremely frustrating to say the least.
Not enough good people, who want to make a real difference, have taken positions in politics. It has to happen enmasse not (1) here (2) there. You need 10-12 people working together, in every town, to make the changes we need done.

The "paid protestor" argument is pretty weak. As a Twin Cities resident I can tell you that many many people are just totally activated, sympathetic to the cause, they have flexible work schedules (work from home laptop warriors) or retired or are doing this stuff on their free time. I can name about 15 friends/acquaintances who fit this description. They are also all well above middle class (so easier to have a flexible schedule or be retired).
If you're trying to say it's all organic, for me that's a hard sell. Are they all pitching in $ to their little collective to have their signs made, or is it coming from outside? Are the organizers and trainers being paid? Maybe the protestors aren't receiving an hourly wage, but... are they receiving other forms of compensation and reimbursement? Meals? Gas money?
The recent life story of Renee Good seems strange to me. I concede it may be b/c I don't know anyone like her. She moved from Colorado to MN and settled there with one of her three children solely b/c she found like-minded people there? Who paid for her move?

I have friends going to these trainings. Yes those trainers are paid by someone - I'm sure they are non profits. But I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of participants in the protests and the observers are not paid themselves. It is so easy to organize online now. My neighborhood Facebook group has been constant posting since the shooting about how to help. Which signal groups to join, how to sign up to deliver food/diapers etc to immigrants too afraid to leave their homes, people spotting possible ICE vehicles and posting about it. And I'm not even in one of the more activisty neighborhoods in St. Paul.

If anything, the true feminists of the world are in Iran, what we are seeing there is true conviction and bravery. They were also protesting in 2019 in a specifically "women's freedom" movement that the Islamo-fascist Tehran regime squashed, and women died, many were shot in the eyes to disfigure and silence them, many were jailed where they were beaten, tortured and raped. Those Iranian women put themselves in very real and constant danger as they protested for their freedom from Islamic tyranny. They had a very real cause, unlike today's cowardly and ridiculous phonies in Minneapolis who are out there with blue hair and nose rings, screaming like hysterical idiots and making obnoxious fools of themselves.....for what, exactly? For who?
And what about America's so called feminists, where were they as Iranian women were risking everything and losing their lives? Where's that feminist solidarity they always talk about? BTW, the ICE Watch literature specifically invokes the use of females so that they can twist the narrative. “Look what those mean old men did to this lady who was just driving her son to school.” A male agitator might get a well deserved take down. Optics are different for a female.

Polly, as a strong woman (who loves strong men) there are many days I’d like to repeal the 19th Amendment. I know that you’re saying - that if the press would give law enforcement more positive coverage women would look more favorably on them.

Alex, this is the Twilight Zone in which we find ourselves right now. I just commented about this on another thread - but I will repeat this here.
In my small very liberal, very blue area, there was an anti-ICE protest in the town square this past weekend. It was clearly anti-ICE but also some attention being paid to the life of the young woman who was killed. I would say about twice as many pro-Trump protestors were on the other side of the town square. Fortunately, there were no incidents. Much to my non-surprise, when I read the newspaper accounts, all the photos were anti-ICE protestors - and not one word was said about the other side. A story for another day.
Nevertheless, I would say about 40% of the signs in the anti-ICE protests were on the theme of REST IN PISS. It is so discordant and incongruent what these leftist protests are even trying to say or do........We are here protesting the death of a young woman and everyone has REST IN PISS signs and what the hell are we even talking about anymore? My Vietnam era protesting hippy liberal parents would be so ashamed of the incoherence right now.
I said this about the massive horrific comments online about the Trump assassination, I said it about the Kirk assassination and I will say it again - the wisdom of the ages - "De mortuis nil nisi bonum." It has been the wisdom of the ages - SAY NOTHING BUT GOOD OF THE DEAD. To do otherwise is really not a good move if you are wanting to influence other members of the species Homo sapiens. So how do REST IN PISS signs have any place in protests? It is not a good look. I am sure the other side would be happy to do this as well - but it is just a bad a look for them. This is my big concern as a Dem-leaning independent. The Dem Party or at least their foot soldiers seem to have learned nothing. I suspect that the reason these protests come off as incoherent, is that they dare not express the principle that they're intended to support -- open borders -- because it is so patently dangerous. If you're not for open borders, then why speak up against deporting people who are here without authorization? And yet, if they came out and said so, they'd soon have to deal with questions such as what they would do if Putin started sending waves of "refugees" into Alaska, or if Muslim organizations arranged for millions of sharia supporters to enter from the southern border.
As has been said, if you don't have borders you don't have a country.
Doctor, you are right to appreciate the complexity of the mess. My comment above speaks of the desire (often but not always unconscious) for good martyrs who become symbolic if the justice of whatever cause is being promoted. Alex is right, too, in suggesting the rhetoric of the lawmen and Trump should be as moderate as possible. But that doesn't mean the transgressions and/or stupid mistakes of the now-dead activist should be soft-pedaled. The MSM, where I once worked, is acting to the detriment of the country but the alt media, like almost all of us here on SubStack, can be forthright without being nasty. But we do need to make our voices heard. Do that by focusing on the utter contempt with which the left and most Dems have operated in Minnesota and Washington. There is plenty of grist in that mill. We who are looking for reason just have to put it forth vigorously.
As I learn more and more about the inner workings of the social services scandal that is at the base of this discussion, I see an absolute need to expose it in reasoned but outraged tones. It has all the earmarks of gross criminality, not merely negligence. We should educate ourselves on how the scams worked. That will discredit the cause the activists.
Don't give them any more martyrs. Describe the system they seem to be supporting. Talk about the $700 million in hundred-dollar bills that were "legally shipped" out of the country by a clever ruse that supports world-wide terrorism. That can be done without calling anyone names. But it should be done.
Whistles and bullhorns from distance do not make these people domestic terrorists. If they want to do that, simply stand by and make a nuisance of themselves, have at it.
However, the moment they begin using vehicles (deadly weapon) to interfere, or assaulting ICE officers to prevent arrests, they are now using the threat of violence to affect political change (their stated goal), and that is textbook terrorism. In that moment, they have crossed the Rubicon and the consequences will be staggering.
Look, there's a simple reason why the anti-ICE protests are so ugly: they're being coached to be that way.
Start with a wide availability of bodies -- the Left's protests depend on gaggles of un- or under-employed people showing up (you rarely see large protests by center-right folks, and that's because we have families, jobs, and lives). Then whip them into a frenzy with rhetoric (preferably by saying that the other side is "literally a bunch of Nazis" as often as possible).
And, ta-da, we see the result: Renee Good, useful idiot. An urban/suburban mother who becomes convinced that the best way to spend a weekday is by following ICE agents around and disrupting their work as much as she can.
The problem is that the anti-ICE protests may yet get their George Floyd moment. They were hoping to get it with Good, but fortunately that didn't do it. But it's far too early to be doing any end-zone celebrations yet.
They are coached in tactics that are against the law. Defend 612 is the organization behind it.
Alex, you have been wrong on a couple of big calls recently (e.g. Bombing the Iran nuke facilities), and you are wrong on this call as well. Ignoring the tantrums of these misguided toxically empathetic Cosplay social warriors will have the same effect as ignoring the tantrums of an actual toddler on a sugar high in a Walmart. Each and every time one of them crosses the line from lawful protest to unlawful activity (throwing rocks, using cars as weapons, actively interfering with lawful immigration enforcement, etc.) arrest them, detain them and prosecute them Federally. Do it professionally and record it all on camera and let the public decide who is right or wrong.
And give ICE better weapons. I heard that the military used "sonic weapons" when the got Maduro to reduce casualties. Let's give them to ICE and cause the rioters to puke their guts out in the snow. The riots would stop quickly.

Quick counterpoint: I get the argument for ignoring the protesters (to starve them of drama).
But from years of talking to cops, I've learned that once people realize interference carries minimal/no consequence, they almost always escalate. Boundaries get tested and situations become unstable. And the likelihood someone gets hurt goes way up (including the protesters themselves).
For this reason, I've come to believe hard, clear deterrence upfront is the more humane tactic.
All part of the plan to continue the destruction of our country. California, Minnesota, Michigan....one state at a time. (Do you think that new flag of Minnesota wasn't intentional? They need to signal to the Islamo-Communists that they have conquered.)
