So... is this going to be stopped or are there still opportunities to get in on the grift?

Asking for a friend.

When it is “someone else’s money” - e.g. “government money” or “Obama’s stash” - someone is going to exploit it and the rest of us will pay. Big government at work: no controls, no supervision, and no accountability.

You will be good as long as you kick back $ to the retards re-election.

In Indiana, what about the other 49?

Kurt's avatar

Yes, inquring minds want to know. Also asking for a friend.

Asked what specific costs supported such high payments for services with labor costs as low as $20 an hour, Mitchell said, “I really don’t have an exact reason for that.”

I do. Greed.

Rebecca Johnson's avatar

I guess to her the question isn't "Why?" - it's "Why not?"

John's avatar

It's kind of a silly question. Could ask almost any business or profession the same question. The answer: because that's what the market is willing to pay (even if the market is a single-payer State entity).

With that said, she was obviously soaking the State. And that's at least as much the State's fault.

John lakeside's avatar

No one is willing to pay this, this is a gate valve on the worlds largest reservoir that the tender opened and walked away on, wait till

It goes dry, be ready

J. Matthews's avatar

That's the problem with no-bid contracts, isn't it? We would know what the market rate was if they were required to obtain competing bids.

The answer is simple: it is evil, the greed is just a symptom, the process is preying and disrupting as many people who are seen as easy targets and simple to depopulate.

Think about it, Canada now wants to get mental health people to agree they should be put to death by euthanasia. And also the first population the Germans went after in Nazi Germany were mental health patients.

If ya sick in the head, ya bettah off dead!... This country still is utterly despicable about dealing with mental illness...

Gary Ray Heintz's avatar

Very true, the NAZI doctors first went after the handicapped relatives of loyal NAZIs, pre-war.

I can't believe I am just realizing in the 2020's that our country is completely corrupt.

Meghann Mitchell needs to be investigated for criminal and civil violations. If found guilty, she needs to go to prison. She is an unethical person to the core. This is not a simple governmental glitch.

Cu's avatar

She didn't do anything wrong. Only took advantage what was in place.

Concerned Citizen's avatar

That is incorrect. She grossly over-billed the government for unnecessary charges. It's called fraud.

Lisa's avatar

I was astonished at the end of the piece when they said there is no investigation. How is this not fraud?

Alex, you have forced me into an uncomfortable spot. How do I tell my granddaughter her $19,000 a year job may be her end of a….a what? I want to say “scam” but I can’t bring myself to suggest it.

She graduated summa cum laude from George Washington U. In D.C. in psych. In three years. And this job in CA was the only one she could find in her field. Her employer may be entirely legitimate but the autism rate in the county where she works and has to provide her own car is higher than the national average for that diagnosis.

Adding to the questions in my cynical mind, I checked availability of autism professional in the county where she works. More than 400 practitioners popped up online in a suburban county in central California. Somebody noted that the boom in autism diagnoses nationally has occurred in suburban areas and in low-income areas.

Draw your own conclusion on that.

John's avatar

Unfortunately, a psychology degree is relatively worthless. It does not provide any hard skills and it is not a real science (check out the reproducibility problem with psychological experiments). Your granddaughter sounds like a smart woman but the value of her degree is purely in terms of critical thinking and writing skills as well as general adult socialization. If she wants to be a psychologist, then she should go get a PhD and start a practice. Otherwise, she needs to pick a different line of work. You don't need a degree to be successful but you do need some hustle, gumption.

Our tax dollars are paying for this appalling fraud and waste. Meanwhile, people who actually need Medicaid receive shockingly substandard care.

You have to wonder what the impact will be to the Democrat party if they can get this fraud and abuse under some control (AI systems should help detect it) -- what will happen to the funding of Democrat candidates who reside over many of the areas where these massive frauds seem to be occurring. Could we come close to balancing our Federal budget if we could cut the fraud across all these welfare programs by 50%?

Go Alex go! Maybe people are waking up? I am an optimist...

Brogan12's avatar

Its one thing to be awake and aware its another thing to see what we all know is happening DEALT with as in where is the accountability, and not JUST these people defrauding the system in these centers, but the POLITICIANS who enble it all and look the other way year after year after year! These politician TAKE our money and dole it out without much if any AUDIT...legit auditing!

Brogan12's avatar

Just a damn shame NO one who should be will ever pay the price. Just endless TALK. Walz, Frey, Ellison or any state politican, SWAMP creature complicit-enabling these autistic centers too are just continuing their daily lives and being paid to do so by US the taxpayers. They get away with all of this and laugh all the way to the bank. Just a disgrace what LACK of accountability exists for those we PAY! Remember what Elon was exposing early on with original DOGE team until the deep state neutered him and DOGE. Elon was always saying that IF the PUBLIC at large knew just how BAD they have been taken advantage of they would be appalled as its far worse than any of us KNOW...just sayin!

The part of the story that hasn't been reported yet: they'll find that Meghann was funneling a substantial portion of that back to the lawmakers who designed the grift into the law, and/or the claim processing department executives who realized the opportunity for the grift, then tipped off Meghann to the opportunity, and watched the cash flow in, hoping to land several million each before anyone caught on. And they've succeeded in legally screwing over Joe and Jane Taxpayer, once again. I wrote another big check to the IRS today, and a whole bunch of that money will go to fraudsters like Meghann and her accomplices. Plus there's the debasement of our currency due to the US having to print money or borrow from China etc for the part the IRS doesn't have the revenue to cover, which further erodes my retirement savings through increased inflation. There's a special place in Hell for Meghann and those lawmakers and government employee and/or political appointee grifters.

Perfectly said.

Great that all this fraud is being exposed but NO ONE has gone to jail yet!!!

RFK Jr. talked about the cause of this sort of fraud in his Joe Rogan interview this week. I'm sorry I can't point to the exact time.

The larger governments becomes and more DEI is used to hire instead of merit, the more fraud occurs. Then we turn the prosecution over to attorney generals who appear to be part of the schemes to go in front of activist judges who use law books based on politics rather than established law and constitutions. And!! You get more fraud! Me think the system is broke!!

ScarlettHamiltonAustralia's avatar

It’s even worse in Australia. The NDIS rorting in Australia puts Minnesota and California to shame. Apparently one in seven Australian children have autism. And more than half the country are disabled. There are no words. The grift, the audacity, the egregious waste is beyond comprehension.

Congress is the greatest facilitator of crime in human history.

BetsyR's avatar

🤬 I just filed my taxes. I’m certain 30% of it is for waste, fraud, and abuse. I sure could use that money.

Pnoldguy's avatar

You think only 30%?

Liz LaSorte's avatar

We need to end the war on poverty. 60 +

Years of Failure, trillions of dollars later, and what do we have to show for it? Even more grift and waste, and they litter!

End welfare and we’ll solve this issue. Even the disabled and blind work!
