The elite media is lying about Ukraine (but not exactly the way you think)

In their desperate effort to give Joe Biden a win, any win, they are giving him credit for leadership he does not remotely deserve

In the last week or so, the bluechecks have begun to claim that somehow Joe Biden deserves credit for leading the resistance to the Russian bear.

To wit, Thomas Friedman, the world’s stupidest pundit, blathered yesterday about President Biden’s ability to galvanize a global economic and military coalition to enable Ukrainians to stand and fight and to devastate Russia at home…

Let’s be clear about exactly what happened and is happening:

We warned Russia not to invade Ukraine. Russia ignored us.

We tried to get China to deter Russia. China ignored us.

We did NOT ban Russia from the global banking system.

We did NOT impose a worldwide ban on Russian energy exports. (Oil is a fungible commodity, people, it makes no difference if we ban Russian imports if other countries do not.)

And Russia’s invasion is becoming more brutal by the day.

Does this sound like effective global leadership?

Look, all our decisions come down to the fact that we have decided Ukraine is not worth American or European blood, or the risk of nuclear war.

Fine. I agree. But we don’t get then to pretend that we’ve done something.

For all the noise we’ve made, Russia has failed to take Ukraine for two and ONLY two reasons: the staggering incompetence of its military and the fact the Ukrainians have fought like hell. Good for them; they want to be free.

The most surprising fact of all is that Eastern Ukraine, which is Russian-speaking and supposedly Russian-loving, has fought just as hard. Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, is all of 25 miles from the Russian border, but it remains in Ukrainian hands.

So I don’t want to hear any nonsense from the right- or left-wing conspiracy theorists about how this war is actually just or Ukraine was oppressing its Russian citizens, or because biolabs, or whatever nonsense the Kremlin has cooked up today.

But I ALSO don’t want to hear any nonsense about what a great job Joe Biden has done. The credit for the fact that Ukraine remains free goes to a very different president, one who is actually putting his life on the line for what he believes.

Compare Zelensky to our own not-so-fearless leader, who has spent the last year hiding from the coronavirus, which even for him would be a lot less likely to be lethal than a Russian missile.

Still, you can expect the bloviating about Uncle Joe to continue. After a year filled with embarrassments, he has managed to keep from soiling himself or American honor this time. With the midterms coming, that’s enough to get the media fluff machine oiled up.
