Honestly after all these years, going all the way back to Walter Duranty and the latest shoddy reporting of Graham Planter I simply do not understand why everyone still fawns and gives credibility to the New Times. That paper and it's employees are nothing but propagandists and quite frankly don't deserve the expenditure of energy the receive on the web.

Decaf's avatar

What? And have all their friends think they're going populist?

Bradley's avatar

Shush will you! We want Platner to stay in the race.

Ryan Gardner's avatar

I agree.

The establishment Democrat Party is the frog.

The DSA are the scorpion.

Sublime!

Dawn Pegis's avatar

I think they may just ride that horse (disgrace to horses. sorry) But Susan Collins KNOWS Mainers. She's not my brand, but I greatly doubt Mainers will buy what Dems are selling.

James Schwartz's avatar

Quite a shocker they were even enamored with this guy in the first place as he is white. The DSA has a way in making even Jews hate themselves so maybe even he would denounce the white race too. A guy who tears off his clothes at his brother’s wedding is unhinged to begin with. Sure must be a proud family moment there. This guy being a senator always seemed like a bad dream and I could see him challenging other members to fist fights over disagreements. What the fuck is going on with this country?

Brian's avatar

Wait a minute... fist fights in Congress? I might have to reconsider and start supporting the guy.

"The DSA has a way in making even Jews hate themselves..." The power of envy and the promise of "free" shit ...

Graham baby will make, after a certain cooling off time, good coin doing podcasts. He does have a "radio voice".

Let’s not forget that manly man Tim Walz, with his relatable shotgun prowess.

Bill Hale's avatar

Tim Walz is what you would get if Richard Simmons and the Pillsbury Doughboy had a love child.

Tony Nobaloney's avatar

Ya mean No Balz Walz?

Louise C's avatar

Wearing a camo hat doesn't make him manly? Checking under the hood of his pickup doesn't make him manly? The dems tried every "manly" thing they could think of and people still wouldn't vote for him. That's when the lightbulb went off, we need a real man, not some dressed up poser.

Platner is the perfect Democratic Candidate, He lies about everything and to anyone. He likes the girls and it appears that he and Slick Billy Clinton have at least one thing in common they will rape anything that isn't a guy. The Feminists went for Slick Billy like flies on rotten meat. Says something about the Feminists doesn't it. I think the Democrats needs to double down and spend billions getting him across the finish line. And its not who votes but who counts the votes that matter.

Anne Emerson Hall's avatar

Actually, Platner seems to have said he’d rape men who broke in..not for sexual reasons? To establish dominance? That last says lot about why he might have needed to rape women he dated, particularly when they were trying to break it off.

RichT's avatar

I’ll be really bummed if Platner drops out.

I’ve been imaging a debate where he does a stirring rendition of the Horst-Wessel song and Collins does America the Beautiful

Alex. You're missing the main point made by philosophers from Shakespeare to Cole Porter. Summer time heat makes people crazy. End of analysis. I hear in Britain they call it Batshit bonkers. By whatever name, it skews the judgement and clouds human reason. Like going shopping when you're hungry, recipe for bad decisions. When they say, " cooler heads prevail ", it is literal. Most decisions made " in the heat of the moment ", are bad ones. Hence summertime hysteria occurs every year. You think someone would notice.

Mom O'Scots's avatar

The MSM is a lost cause. You failed to include Jazz Hands Walz in your list of manly men the dems arrogantly think will dazzle white working class men. ¿Quién es más macho?

Bill Hale's avatar

Let's not forget James Talarico, the Dems Great White Hope for turning Texas blue. They think they have their hands on a telegenic "cis" white Christian male, which must be a hands down winner in Texas. They have spent so much time fighting "toxic" masculinity that they have no idea what is toxic (see Graham Platner) or what is masculine. Talarico is an effeminate vegan faux Christian (God is non-binary. really?) with a particularly strong affinity for sexually confused children (In a 2023 Texas House floor debate, he stated that his love for transgender youth is a love beyond measure.). Texans are going to see right through him.

Mom O'Scots's avatar

And I'm one of those Texans. I didn't think of him because he's such a hypocritical dumpster fire. He's not especially manly but, by gosh, he's a Christian. "They" will fall for that!

Bill Hale's avatar

Fellow Texan here too. Aside from a handful of the "They/Them" pronoun nuts in downtown Austin, very few are going to buy what this dingbat is selling.

I see a difference. With Biden, msm denied the obvious. With Platner, they DEFENDED every indefensible that came to light. I used to think they called every Republican Nazis because killing 6 million Jews was, gee, a pretty awful thing. Yet, they are still doing it (calling everyone to the left of them Nazis), but today's Democrats (except for Fetterman and a very few others) seem to think harassing Jews, targeting Jews, cancelling Jews, pushing BDS, cheering the eradication of Israel, and cozying up to Muslims who are doing the same thing is just fine and dandy.

Paul Mantyla's avatar

When Biden's press secretary claimed that all the videos of his cognitive decline were deep fakes, I thought it curious that no reporter ever asked for the unedited videos to correct the record. When you complain about edited videos, normally the first thing you want to do is share the unedited videos to provide the full context.

MSK's avatar

The reporters never challenged anything put out by the Biden administration. He was the “Best Biden ever”, “sharp as a tack”, the videos “were deepfakes”. Don’t believe your own eyes, we know what’s best for you. Not sure if it’s 1984 or The Emperor’s New Clothes, but telling the truth is not a MSM job any longer and we don’t hate them enough.

Legacy media is not news. It's propaganda.

It might say something about the deep, hidden fantasies of the AWFL’s.

Platner claiming he didn't know he had a Nazi tattoo is like finding a guy with a Mcdonald's logo on his arm who says he just likes the letter "M". Nothing like having the historical literacy of a house plant. My lawn mower has more smarts.

scott dittrich's avatar

Standards for the mainstream media have sunk so low even a Nazi tattoo can be excused. But this isn't a run of the mill Nazi tat. It's for the elite of the elite in Nazi terms. It was the SS that led the charge to eliminate Jews, even commandeering transport needed by the army to prioritizing sending Jews to the concentration camps. I guess it was just a dark period for Platner so we should all empathize for him. (Not sure what I'd do with a poker chip. T shirts better).

Jim M's avatar

Not for nothin' Alex, Matt Taibbi just left a wide lane wide open for you in terms of media critique.

He & Walter Kirn (ugh) did 2x a week livestreams specifically critiquing the media. It all blew up earlier this year and now Matt's desperately trying to become an online 'Lit-tri-ture' professor or something...

I suggest you reach out to Bridget Phatasy who has an incredible 2x a week stream called 'Dumpster Fire'. I'm a paying sub and feel like I'm gypping her.

It's worth a look, man.

Dawn Pegis's avatar

I had listened to a few of their too long conversations. Missed the break up. ????

Jim M's avatar

It happened this spring when Matt tried building out the biz by hiring a general manager who Walter disliked. He quit without warning. Aaaand... this manager was gone in a week too.

Currently, he writes one, maybe two articles a week. He also does some kind of boring stream on Russian Lit with some guy. Yawn.

I re-upped my paid sub this year b/c he's one of the originals I subb'd to and so there's some kind of bond, y'know?

Back of the napkin math tells me he's currently putting over $1M / year in his pocket from his substack. Which is great, right?

Except now...I think he's hitting some kind of re-assessment of things. He's in his mid-50's, incredibly successful for a columnist... and... welll, hitting the big time does have a downside: 'Where do I go from here?' kinda thing. But that's just my opinion, man...

He's a talented writer and observer of the absurd, no question. But... he sucks on TV itself. Walter was a good foil for him; kept him sharp and challenged him like a wise uncle.

He's a one man show who's still figuring it out.

Dawn Pegis's avatar

Thanks Jim. I didn't know Matt T enough to get his worldview.

Brian's avatar

That blew up? I hadn't listened in a while.

The mainstream media's bias is so blatant and has been for the past 20 years, and is tantamount to lying. Any issue they cover, they shade it so badly, so at to make it substantially false. Why anyone would look to them as a source of reliable news or honest information is baffling. When they get caught lying, {NY Times I'm talking about you} they just ignore it and begin again. Funny how there is no retraction nor apology, ever.

I may not agree with Alex on every issue, but at least I know he is honest and has done his homework and provides his sources, unlike the NYT. Alex has earned our trust the hard way. So keep it up, and I'll continue to get some of my news from you. I do enjoy your sense of humor too, for what it's worth.
