Arg!

Here is the thing.

The extremists generating viewership from the idiots that suck on extremism would have much less of an audience if not for the so called sane and regular media people continuing to report on the voice of the extremists.

I did not know who Nick Fuentes was, and frankly did not care, until the mainstream hacks decided that he was the poster child for handwringing over the rise of the extreme right.

How about we just ignore the extremists? Why they hell do we keep getting reports on what the f*cked up ignorant liberal chicks on The View say? It is like the media is stuck on reporting on the absurdity of the inmates within the asylum and this gets turned into our national discourse when 80% of the rest of the population is living a normal life outside of that insanity.

Dark Thomas's avatar

we keep getting reports from the fringes because politics is our new cultural touchstone.

30 years ago most people could name a lot of the shows on television even if we didn't watch all of them. "did you catch seinfeld last night?" - even if you weren't a fan you probably had an opinion of the show.

what was the highest rated tv series last year? which channel was it on? you would have been strange to not know these answers in years past. it's not like that anymore.

now there are more channels. plus streaming services. plus social media where people talk about themselves and politics (owens). online video games. streaming services dedicated to watching people play video games online where the players talk about themselves and politics (piker).

blame trump. he singularly made politics more interesting than tv because his presence + the rise of the internet + the decline of tv became a cultural inflection point where we all decided to have an opinion on trump but not abc's thursday night lineup.

so, we get reports from the fringes because these are the replacements. even if you're not a fan, a lot of people have an opinion on piker and owens.

Frank Lee's avatar

It seems that politics is the new cultural touchstone because the corporatist media that is mostly in line with the Dem party keeps forcefeeding us political junk. It is media-driven political psyc ops... Madison Ave. Phycological manipulation to cause us to consume unhealthy politics over all these other normal and healthy topics we used to focus on.

Dark Thomas's avatar

sure, but television and hollywood were very liberal and used to drive social engineering of the population for decades.

Dawn Pegis's avatar

You’re right ‘Dark Thomas’. Media, even when entertainments (cultural diversions) were not nearly as toxic, still, they were even then, not the best of everyday people which actually keep the country grounded in morality and WORK. So many - TOO many now- just do not adhere to either morality or work in order to uphold the good of our civilization. I’m grateful for positive signs in some in the younger generation, but will it be enough to salvage freedom. It may provide only a firmer remnant while - well, I hate to speculate the negative. With no free America, it would be worse than China, Iran, Nigeria, Venezuela…. The anarchists ‘dreams’ of tearing down to have something better??? It’s like a little 4 yr old not liking the rules of a decent caring home (not perfect, but good) and ending up alone on the street. Oh…. like the ‘Prodigal son’ only no EARTHLY father to go back home to- because they destroyed it.

In my reading mainstream Dems and Trump have all sold out their constituencies. Ultimately the problem is our tribalism and our tendency to support "our team" no matter what they do. I was never a fan of MTG, but I think her recent analysis of Trump is dead on. The fact that Dems STILL insist on hating her even as she acknowledges their points shows their insanity and their unreadiness to rule. MAGA, whatever its faults, was never this dumb. But MAGA is dead for me after the last year with Trump. An Epstein cover up, more lawfare, lawsuits to shut up free speech, soldiers on our streets, and executions without trial are far from Constitutional conservativism.

Frank Lee's avatar

Sorry, but there is a complete lack of critical thinking here and evidence that you are media gaslit. Or you are a troll claiming MAGA support that never existed.

Simply evaluating the Demicrat alternative nobody claiming to be a disenfranchised MAGA supporter can be believed. Trump was elected to fix the immigration problem. Denmark, Sweden, etc. Are currently going much more extreme to fix their liberal made mess. Inflation is 100% Democrat caused. Nobody can fix that and everything else in a year. And "lawfare" fcking give me a break after what Democrats did to Trump and his supporters.

Fritz Dahmus's avatar

I agree. But I think it started with Clinton and Monica. Trump added some uneeded fuel is all.

Read Michael Reagan‘s column at newsmax.com that was published yesterday at the site. It is true, the left is about evil and narratives of death and destruction, their focus on illegal alien benefits and enabling cover is beyond reproach.

Folks at sites like this tell readers to vote Republican, and yet the party is so fractured and selfish and cowardly, people like me just say “screw it, I’m not voting for evil or stupidity.” I for one am not supporting Demoncrap destruction, or Repugnocant avoidance.

Read the column, and then think about it. Happy holidays.

Scfanjl's avatar

I agree, in part, that if we’d ignore them it would be better. (Streakers don’t bother running across the field anymore because TV won’t film them.) Republicans have begun to stop running to the mic to denounce the latest crazy when commanded by MSM so I think there is improvement on that front.

But, because our kids (and adults!) have endless cess pools to navigate on their social media accounts, we do have to call them out in some way. With the MSM not interested in investigating and reporting anything except that which hurts Trump it will be difficult.

I see improvement but we’re not there yet, for sure!!!

" It is a constitutional republic, and we depend on our elected representatives to rule for us"

I'd argue we don't need to be "ruled". A minimal, limited, constitutionally constrained government of enumerated powers doesn't need more laws, but ones that are permitted and not an ounce more. :-)

This is very much due to the absolute crap education kids in k-12 have been getting for the last 40 years. Unless you graduated from high school before 1975 or so, and for sure anyone graduating after 1990 or so, the statistical odds favor you not being able to reason very well. And most likely you would not have enough general knowledge to identify idiotic claims.

HardeeHo's avatar

It’s remarkable how the vocabulary expected of 8th graders back in earlier times is so much ahead of today. Reading is a good part of that and today’s children find “chapter books” tedious maybe because of social media training since they were younger. Short attention spans suggest the brain has been altered. Learning requires concentration and attention. We, the collective, may be responsible by using media as a pacifier.

But it appears that the latest Gen-Z may be rebelling. They seem to want to learn more. Maybe a reaction to the noise of today’s social media. Perhaps hope for a better future. We shall see.

Pnoldguy's avatar

Hah! You see the textbook from my Mothers 8th grade chemistry class circa 1936. It would be interesting to see how many college chem majors would fare answering the questions.

Ohio Phil 4:6-7's avatar

I find it ironic that so many of the Covid warriors I have continued to follow are quick to cast off Candice as a “conspiracy” weaver.

Charlie Kirk’s assasination and it’s “approved” narration from “our” Justice Department casts my mind back to the “safe and effective” propagandists of a time not so long ago.

When I heard my 4 kids aged 18-25 (who were crushed by Charlie’s assassination) began calling BS on the narration of Cash Patel’s Justice Department regarding the globally shared murder of likely one of their generations brightest minds - I stopped to listen.

If you are 25 and have shot a 30.06 or ever messaged a friend, the BS coming from our law enforcement “experts” hit the same way you and this audience reacted to “masking” and “experimental gene therapies” on parade as miraculous flu shots…

Candice is in the midst of calling out the tactics and sloppiness of an information psy-op. Truth is not fully being told in this “official” investigation. She is nearly alone in this call for accountability on false statements that have been promoted unwaveringly by the “Gate Keepers” in both media and the government - This unfortunately feels so familiar…

How often did we all lament the need for a little “curiosity” or the occasional “push back” at the absurd narratives we were all fed? Her chosen fight is not unlike one you and your peers in the journalistic and medical freedom movements faced a few years back. The tactics employed against her are eerily similar to what you faced.

I don’t doubt she has made some mistakes in her reporting. She is drinking from a firehose of reports from likely credible and false flag bearing informants. As a professional journalist with an incredibly full plate, I don’t expect you to lend her a hand. That said, I truly believe there is enough “smoke” billowing from the Kirk assassination narratives to warrant additional “independent” forces lending her rhetorical support sufficient to not torpedo her efforts to uncover legitimate flames of deciet.

BTW - Thank you as a Jewish man for not casting her as an “Anti- Semite” in your commentary. That slur has been so reflexively overused it risks having no meaning these days. Israel is in the crucible of global tensions and not everyone who disagrees with the tactics of their current power brokers has it in for their Jewish neighbors or the State of Israel. She has an interesting and complex back story with Jews of significant influence in our media, I struggle to judge her as so many already have on that front.

Bottom line Alex - “The truth has a certain ring to it”. It’s why I still follow you and why I struggle mightily to ignore what Candace has been discussing this past month. I would much rather live in my “pre-covid” world of comfort and ignorance - but I can’t go back.

God Bless.

Whatever happened to the lawsuit filed against Candace by the French President and his wife? That's when she lost me. The information about Mrs Macron that Candace "found" had already been exposed by French journalists. Candace offered no new information.

Ohio Phil 4:6-7's avatar

Not an unwarranted concern. That said - litigation is tactic to wield against a poorly funded truth seeker, yet welcomed by those with the means to defend themselves (if the truth is on their side). Now that she has leapfrogged to the number one podcast on the planet, Candice certainly has the means to defend herself and back up her assertions in a court armed now with… discovery 🤢

I’m sure Alex was happy none of his discovery requests required photographs of Joe Biden, Andy Slavit, or Anthony Fauci’s genitalia… 😂

Louise C's avatar

Ahhh!!! That would be another Fauci nightmare for me. I can't stand looking at his face.

Tell Your Children is affirmed every, single, darn day. Perhaps amplify that book with an updated view. The stench of cannabis is in each city and even on ski slopes and boats. America is overmedicated to the extreme...

dzrlib's avatar

WAIT A MINUTE!! "the fact that so many schools are doing such a bad job teaching kids to read?"

That is a gross misstatement!! The reason SOME children don't read at grade level, is more likely due to the fact that they didn't meet their first book, until Kindergarten. If you haven't regularly read to your child from the time they could sit up, and never took them to the local public library ... the inability to read at grade level is YOUR PROBLEM. So don't sneak off and blame the schools for failing to correct the problem YOU CREATED.

Marguerite's avatar

I never discount the effects of poor parenting, but many schools have dropped the ball as well. Here in Nevada they don’t even bother teaching cursive anymore. Ok, not the end of the world, but consider this. They no longer teach history or civics. Routine questioning of high school students here reveals that most of them, even the college bound, know virtually nothing about the country they live in.

Brogan12's avatar

The SEL (social emotional learning) being used now that overrides most time spent learning the basics of reading math and writing is a REAL concearn! The neo Marxist forces backed by the CCP uses the teachers unions who are bought and paid for to drive this agenda. We thought it may be ending when Trump was elected again, but it seems is cruising along as it was. Until PARENTS run for school board positions and rise UP it will continue!

Bernadette's avatar

Yes, but many schools don't teach phonics either. Mississippi reinstituted phonics in their classrooms and grade level literacy rates jumped WAY up.

Ree T.'s avatar

Our school district did the same with great results. All five of my kids could read before kindergarten because I taught them phonics. I highly recommend the podcast Sold A Story. It explains why schools stopped teaching phonics and what a disaster that’s been.

John Lester's avatar

Perhaps other factors at work at least for me, I think. My Dad read to me every day as a preschool child. I was finally held back a semester in the third grade and kept after school by a teacher until I got the reading thing. This was in the 1940's and I was working with a 127 IQ but for some reason I did not catch on at first. Then every week during the summer I would go to the public library and get the max number of books to read that week. Of course I was not seduced by devices back then.

Ilene Heller's avatar

The range for reading readiness is actually quite wide (probably ages 3 - 9, at least, & maybe even as late as 12).

As a homeschooling mom & pediatric nurse I was quite aware of this. My son taught himself to read (I read to him as soon as he could hold his head up & he somehow cracked the code & was reading fluently by age 3). One of his friends could not read a word until age 9, but went on to earn a doctorate from Oxford.

Phonics are extremely important, but the NYC school system abandoned them in favor of Lucy Calkins' whole-language program - with disastrous results for decades. That debacle came out of Columbia's Teachers' College (as did so many other educational farces).

Another disaster is the "new math" that first appeared in the 1960s. My mother despised it & taught me math the way it was taught in the 1930s, when getting the right answer was the whole point.

There is also a late-talking phenomenon: kids who don't say a word until about age 5

(many end up being gifted in math & music). Thomas Sowell wrote an excellent book about this.

My point is that children should be given the gift of time whenever possible. Then perhaps we could put a limit on the "learning disability" industry.

John Lester's avatar

When my grandchildren were young the family car had screens on the seat backs for them to use plus handheld devices. The offer of a complete first edition set of Harry Potter books was scoffed at. They had seen the videos.

The meeting between Trump and Madmani went well for exactly the reason Alex states -- both saw weakness in the current establishment and used it to their advantage. I suspect there other reasons as well, and one might be Trump's preference for establishing personal relationships with opponents as well as with friends and allies. It often helps to have those relationships when something needs to get done. Another is that Trump has a long and intimate history with New York City politics, and that he might be willing to offer advice to a rookie Mayor in exchange for cooperation in achieving important common objectives.

They're both showmen, Trump a former reality TV star, Mamdani a former rapper. Both nepo babies. Both men with little to no political experience who pulled off stunning victories. Is it really surprising that they would get along?

I am buying your book, Tell the Children, for my friend, who has gone through a horrific time with a family member who used to smoke weed on a fairly regular basis, when it was not so strong, but stopped b/c it was bothering his throat. A number of years later, it was legalized and sold in stores, along with a huge display of munchie foods like brownies, candy and gummies, lots of gummies. The family member started eating gummies, unaware that they were FAR stronger than anything he had in his younger days. They didn’t make him high as fast as he wanted so he overdid it. In a big way over the course of a year. He ended up in Emergency in a state of psychosis. They had NO IDEA what was happening to him. After a few months in the Psych Ward, he was told the paranoia and psychosis was caused by the marijuana he was imbibing. No-one believed it. How could that be? Marijuana is a benign, gentle drug. Well. It is NOT, as you know. This family went through hell for two years and he is doing better, but it is still a struggle. Your book is a much needed warning and every parent should read it.

For the common man here, I say get off social media! I know Alex needs it to promote his writing so this comment is not for him. I left Twitter years ago before Elon even took over, and last year I deleted both Facebook and Instagram. I haven’t looked back. I don’t need to see the stupid opinions of some _ billion people. I’ve found my small communities (both in real life and here on Substack - my last remaining “social media”) and only care about the opinions and ideas expressed within them. That’s not to say they aren’t diverse opinions, which is healthy to consume. But it’s not the maelstrom of traditional social medias designed for the benefit of only the coming beast system.

Ohmboy's avatar

I wish everyone with even half a brain would kill Facebook. I can't tell you how many people still tell me, "well I just use it to see photos from the kids, grandkids, whatever." I ask them "do you not realize that your mere presence makes money for one of the most despicable humans on the planet?" I get a blank stare. Very sad. It was already a cesspool when I bailed out in 2015. I can only imagine how crappy it is now. Sharing photos and keeping in touch has not been hindered. Nobody as creepy as Zuckerberg should be kept afloat just because you are too lazy to share photos the old fashioned way.

Karon Mitchell's avatar

I’m in total agreement with that. I ditched Facebook when proof came out that Zuckerberg had interfered with the election, by donating money to people like our Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, with strings attached that Zuckerberg’s people could run the election. I could no longer support the Facebook platform with this knowledge. But, to my amazement, most of my friends and family are still on there. These people like Zuckerberg only have this power because people allow them to get away with this stuff. And, sadly, Raffensperger got himself reelected and has now declared that he’s running for Governor.

Louise C's avatar

Don't forget about the Zuckerberg ballot drop boxes which made it easier to collect ballots and drop off 20 at a time.

Ohmboy's avatar

I hear you. I just cannot understand some of my friends not wanting to remove his power base. Wish I was clever enough to create an alternative platform. I would have no ads and just a cheap annual fee. But for now, I just keep trying to get people to get off of FB.

Owens, Fuentes, Stew Peters and others are popular because they are asking questions. Nick Fuentes is called anti semitic (Well who isn't these days if you question Israel. NO, he is just bringing to the surface the Jew and Israeli influence in this country. These people are asking questions that many of us want answers to. The MSM and others are merely propaganda machines, and any quess who owns them.
