The Dems have lost so much power. Their only remedy is not policy but bullying and violence. We can all acknowledge the immense corruption of both the Democrat and Republican politicians. But the level of evil in the Democrat Party is not measurable. They have sunk to levels that are beyond our thought. This is and will continue to be a battle for survival. Not a time to lay down our swords. We are now all Charlies.

Yuri Bezmenov's avatar

Je suis Charlie. Democrats have gone full communist. In the words of one of their mass murderer idols CCP Chairman Mao Zedong: "Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun."

mike peterman's avatar

Unfortunately, being armed for protection seems to be of utmost importance.

Brogan12's avatar

Fortunately, since the FAILED BLM Marxist ploy in 2020 GUN sales are thru the ROOF, and especially with 1st time women buyers. Most of us already armed and ready bought more too. I see more and more NEW gun owners at the range every month, and especially women. A new dating app may come of it lol. In essence America is better armed than ever to protect itself!

mike siroky's avatar

Lenin said the same, when he opined," One man with a gun can control 100 men without one"

I realized earlier tonight after suppressing this thought for a while, that the Democrats were almost completely responsible for the way Covid was used as a perverse and despicable weapon. And in the end, denying family the opportunity to have closure with people dying from Covid, especially the first few months, was one of the most perverse and disgusting violations of an inherent human relationship need.

I for one will never forgive the Democrats for that alone, forget their 4-A club of Abortion, child Abuse, coddling Antisocial behavior, and raw Antisemitism. Using biology to destroy people‘s lives, that is beyond redemption. People will never get absolution being involved with Covid and treatment as a weapon.

mike peterman's avatar

When one has the MSM in your back pocket, there are no limits to the rules and mandates one can install.

DividedUpWorld's avatar

I respectfully disagree, one person is not going be that person who stands in front of the proverbial tanks like at Tiananmem Square, but if the majority of people rose and had that Network moment of “I’m mad as hell and not taking this anymore“, the Democrats could not afford the video image of Americans being gunned down by sadistic Democrat operatives.

But, we don’t have people like that, we don’t have people who stand for freedom independence choice and autonomy as I wrote below. No, people have made very poor choices, have willfully given up freedom and independence, and I don’t even think people understand the concept of autonomy.

But thank you for voicing your position.

mike peterman's avatar

Understood. I should've have said 'had' not has. That was my thought process at the time of Covid. And one man did stand up to enable freedom to become possible again, in my opinion. That was Elon for purchasing Twitter and unleashing the Twitter files, exposing the rot. I will always feel this was the biggest moment in my lifetime. Besides the Rangers winning the Cup in 94

Joseph Little's avatar

Well, or so they thought. But the so-called power of the MSM is gone. Never to return.

And the idiocy of leftist policies is on full display.

Rik's avatar

To be fair, both Democrats AND Republicans used Covid as a weapon to start with, but many of them did so out of ignorance of the facts, whether just too lazy to bother looking for information, or simply not fortunate enough to have come across the clues that something horrible was being done to human beings by their so-called 'representatives' all over the world - something that the media were very good at covering up until recently - and, make no mistake, they're still at it...

I am so angry about many things going on in this country. I’ve been around for a little longer and have seen the high times and these now I’d call them low times. Charlie’s assassination made my blood boil. His life story and what he created from scratch is an American story. He saw a void and went after it with intelligence and energy and compassion using our god given rights as his compass. He realized if we can get each other talking again face to face the barriers that have been put up could become to crack. Using college campuses was the obvious choice to hold discussion as they are supposed to be the bastion for debate in our country. One person decided for all of us his ideals mattered more and silenced Charlie forever. This should anger every American who screams Free speech as they try and try to win whatever argument for their cause. If Khalil Muhammad gets to spout death to Israel and anti-American rhetoric and still walks the earth on American soil but Charlie gets killed for his platform this should tell us all one thing. The left only cares that their voice is heard and they will silence anyone who believes that God should be worshipped and men shouldn’t be in women’s sports and abortion is murder. Sept. 10, 2025 will now be a very dark day for America as someone with evil in their heart took away someone who still believed America’s best days were ahead of it by using the words written by our forefathers 250 years ago. They say grief happens in 5 stages but I’ll be in the anger stage for a longer time than most. I also pray this wasn’t the work of some sleeper cell from Iran or China because that would be an act of war in my opinion and no amount of diplomacy would be equal to what was done to our country by taking what very likely was a future president.

I would love to hear your position on how both the Republicans and Democrats each weaponized COVID

Donnie Claxton's avatar

In my red state, Alabama, the State Health Officer, Scott Harris, is the only state out of 50 that does not report to the Governor. The governor can’t fire him, the voters cannot fire him. He is appointed by the Medical Society of the State of Alabama, which is a private dues paying group of 7,000 doctors in this state. Until recently the governor had no choice who the SHO was, but now the governor can pick one of 2 or 3 choices provided by MASA. This unaccountable monstrosity was set up 150 years ago. Harris had the longest running statewide mask mandate in the southern states. 3 surrounding states never had statewide mask mandates. Harris bans all social media comments. He heads a non-transparent, unresponsive bureaucracy with zero political accountability. Harris is enabled and shielded by the medical industry. Doctors completely control public health in Alabama with dismal results. The super majority of Republicans in the legislature refuse to change the situation.

Southern Kristin's avatar

I don't know, Meemaw seemed pretty happy herself to vilify anyone who didn't want a vaccine. But I agree, Scott Harris is the worst.

Donnie Claxton's avatar

Meemaw provided political cover for Harris. Her term cannot end soon enough.

Rik's avatar

Quite simple. I had friends from both camps who made me feel criminal for preferring non-mainstream media information on the subject. That's weaponization.

Southern Kristin's avatar

I'd like to be able to blame Covid completely on the Democrat Party, but from my viewpoint, I saw plenty of Republicans gleefully telling people to stay home, wear masks, and get vaccinated. I live in the South, with a Republican governor who happily berated people for not getting vaccinated. Very, very few Republicans at the time had the courage to say anything against the narrative. DeSantis was an anomaly.

Donnie Claxton's avatar

DeSantis was the best. And Georgia’s Kemp was accused of human sacrifice when he stopped the madness in April 2020. Meemaw is a Democrat who swapped parties to get elected. She isn’t the only Democrat who swapped parties. The remaining Republicans are paid by the medical industry and say platitudes about rights but don’t do anything to make changes in laws or hold hearings on COVID-19. DividedUpWorld is correct about the Alabama Supermajority “Republicans” being cowards. Charlie Kirk was no coward. He faced opposition with grace and logic. I am still heart broken and furious at the same time. Both Charlie and COVID-19 are the result of those in power dehumanizing us to control us.

DividedUpWorld's avatar

Agreed. That’s how the Democrats stay in place, it’s the cowardice whoring and avoidance of faux Republicans/ conservatives.

Jesus came to perfect the law of Moses and the covenant of David…

“All of you should be like-minded, sympathetic, loving toward one another, kindly disposed, and humble. Do not return evil for evil or insult for insult. Return a blessing instead. This you have been called to do, that you may receive a blessing as your inheritance.” 1 Peter 3:8-9

mike peterman's avatar

Violence is not the answer we desire. But we also have to realize that way too many haters believe it is the answer and one must.protect themselves.

WFF's avatar

Violence is certainly not the answer we desire, but it is an appropriate response to those who would do violence to us.

Demeisen's avatar

Violence is not the answer to a sincere cry for help or a legitimate grievance. Or perhaps misunderstanding that can be solved by discernment.

But canny, trained, overwhelming and eye-blistering violence delivered with speed is a perfectly moral response to those who would do us harm.

SRwilson's avatar

The goal is to be more like Jesus every day. That said I struggle with the concept of turning the other cheek. Apparently I'm not quite as sinless as Jesus.

Demeisen's avatar

Realize many insincere people are trying to selectively quote our doctrine against us. Don't just take "be nice and always marshmallowy" as the synthesis of Christianity. Read scripture, the historical context, and commentary.

There was a whole lot of righteous smiting going on.

Christ forgave people in larger scope. He didn't ask them to not be prosecuted and pay for their crimes.

Brogan12's avatar

A shared struggle for sure for many of us. I just cannot imagine Jesus believing in that MOMENT for us mortals WE should not protect thyself, friends and family from evil. It is a difficult grasp! I just KNOW it's not in my makeup not to protect others or myself. I accept judgement after I pass...

Dcn. Greg Bower's avatar

Self defense is one thing; revenge is another all together. Christians are certainly within their rights and obligations to defend themselves…but we shouldn’t go looking for a fight

Dcn. Greg Bower's avatar

Ilene Heller's avatar

Yes, be ready to respond in kind. After some jerk pulled a box-cutter on me back in 2022 I decided that I am going to fight back or help someone else fight back.

At the time, a (very large) by-stander literally stood by me as I called the police & the perp backed off. I was able to identify him on surveillance video but he was never caught.

To this day I carry a very sharp knife in my handbag. There have been times when I've kept it folded up in my hand (like on the subway) or in my pocket.

I often wonder if more of my family in Europe would have survived if they greeted with guns the Germans who came to kill them.

mike peterman's avatar

LRH's avatar

Totally agree, the communist left outward power has diminished and people are starting to see and understand who they are.

Joseph Little's avatar

Yes, I think the Dem party is DONE. It cannot be recovered. First, because everyone knows they have lied endlessly.

The moderates must start a new party on the principle of being honest. (Ok, very honest for a politician.) They need a new brand. And they need to say NO to the radical leftist, antifa, DSA, and the Woke Progressives.

mike peterman's avatar

The problem for the moderate Dems (I'm sure there must be a couple), is their failing to speak out and stand up to the progressives. They don't want to be marginalized. Seth Moulton is a perfect example. He came out and said men shouldn't be competing in womens' sports and got trashed immediately. He curled up like a 5 yr old. Good riddance.

Joseph Little's avatar

Well, the truth is we NEED a sensible common sense opposition party. And such a party could, probably would eventually regain power.

The problem is Trump (mostly a good man, I think) has all the common sense issues on his side.

Why the Dems cannot, any of them almost, cannot find and articulate some common sense? I think this is an important question. A partial unsatisfactory answer is that they are ideological and “religious” about this stuff. Surely true, but still inadequate.

Let us pray that “Republicans” (I am not particularly worried about Trump, but later), having no check, do not themselves “go too far.”

Still, for now the Republicans have PLENTY of work to clean out all the rot that the Leftists (aka Dems) institutionalized. Yes, not all Dems were for most of this rot, and there are still a few moderate Dems remaining (as elected people). And a very few sensible people on the left side of the Dem party (I think of Ro Khanna, at least in some issues).

Joe's avatar

I've followed you for years Alex. Loved your analysis on COVID. Even went and read "Tell your children" and came away with a different view of marijuana. Youve always given most of the left the benefit of the doubt though. Have your views changed the last few days? I'm genuinely curious.

I was never a big follower of Charlie's, but his death has shaken me in a surprising way. I haven't been this angry in a long time about anything. I'm going to remain peaceful, just how Charlie would have wanted. But man, I look at the left in a whole different light now.

kittynana's avatar

@Joe- yes, he wants you peaceful. But not quiet.

Rik's avatar

Those people are not 'Left'. They are something else.

50 years ago there was nothing wrong with being Left, since it stood for all sorts of normal, human, compassionate views and against ruthless corporate greed.

Now it has been infiltrated by extremists and has become aggressively 'woke' - a new fashion, and a horrible one.

At any rate I have ditched 'right' and 'left' terminology and find that 'bad/good' works better in the real world.

Liberal, not Leftist's avatar

They’re radical left. Internationalist Socialists. InterNazis. PMS wing (Progressivist-Marxist-Socialist). Against America and Western Civilization.

Rush warned us for decades and too many didn't listen. After he died at the beginning of the Biden administration, they really kicked into high gear and no longer tried to hide their disdain for the Constitution and hatred for the American people. I think many, many people woke up this week. We must rise up and be brave like Charlie. He wasn't fearless. I'm sure he was well aware of how dangerous the left is. But he was brave enough to keep speaking truth. I know Alex will continue speaking/writing truth as well. I think a revival is coming. It started a slow burn in 2015, but I believe that shot on Wednesday kicked over the embers and threw gasoline on a bonfire!

Joseph Little's avatar

Don’t get too angry. Don’t lose your balance. This particular case is odd. But, I think Alex rightly points out things that we want to ignore, that we don’t want to believe. We must find a bunch of sensible actions to take.

George Pazin's avatar

Fantastic piece, Alex. You are at the tip of the spear on free speech issues, please take care of yourself, the country needs you and people like you.

P Wilens's avatar

Alex is absolutely right. With progressive Democrats no longer holding power and losing their grip on speech control and cancel culture, their tactics have shifted. Instead of censorship, they’ve resorted to intimidation using violence and now bullets to silence dissent. It’s a disturbing reflection of what the far-left movement has devolved into.

Chris's avatar

We’re no longer in the “let’s share ideas and discuss a middle ground so that we can live in peaceful harmony”. We’re at war with leftest progressives a deep state liberal (but I repeat myself) to save what’s left of this nation.

They’ll kill the best and most reasonable of us and virtually cheer it in the halls of congress. Lock in, for the sake of what you hold dear.

Joseph Little's avatar

Well, we are at “war” (not with violence, but still metaphorically, a war) with the Woke Progressives. Still, even some of the “strong” ones are starting to see the stupidity of their side. Ex: Alex is former Democrat at least.

Let us not dehumanize all the Woke Progressives.

And, Charlie is right that plenty of “Democratic” followers can be engaged in debate, and many will be won over. And many will be against violence. And talk and more talk (with reality) can do that.

As a Jew I believe that that was the take-home message of the Holocaust.

Hard to believe that so many people (Jew and gentile) still don't get it.

CMCM's avatar

I doubt if today's students are taught much, if anything, about the Holocaust. When I was in about 8th grade in the early 1960s, in school we read Anne Frank's Diary. That left a lasting impression on me. I read that book many many times and still have it. I was of a similar age to Anne, so it became very personal to me. I almost felt like I knew her. In the 1980s I was in Amsterdam and the one place I wanted to visit was Anne's house. It was a very emotional experience. We learned a lot about WW2 and the Holocaust specifically at that point in time. We were shown actual photos of the victims piled up in mass graves. I doubt any of that is known by today's kids. So they dismiss it.

Ilene Heller's avatar

Very little history of any kind is known by today's kids. I was a school nurse for 16 years & met 14-year-olds who didn't know who Winston Churchill was.

As for Anne Frank: for a long time her diary was virtually the only memoir of that time that was available to American pre-college students. Unfortunately, she came to the wrong conclusion (that people are basically good). Ironically, that conclusion is at odds with a basic Jewish tenet: people are born with both an evil inclination and a good inclination and have the free will to choose which inclination to indulge.

That being said, I agree that visiting the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam is a very moving experience. I was there in 1971 and it was very easy to imagine German soldiers walking up and down the narrow streets by the canals. It was also very easy to see how hard it was to remain hidden if you were a Jew.

I usually recommend that young people read Gay Block & Malka Drucker's "Rescuers." Very sad, but uplifting at the same time. A lesson in altruism and courage.

Yes I just read someone who likened the effect to martyr Stephen witnessed by Paul. May there be lots of ‘Pauls’ (&Paulettes).

Even 1 or a handful of the gleeful reactions of people to this heinous assasination would be horrifying, yet it’s likely in the 100’s or even 1000’s or ??? There is only one source of that much mind distortion (actual evil) — the media developments (as well as formal educational horrors) which Alex highlights so accurately in this timely essay!!!

SeaElleAre's avatar

We all can be a Paul or Paula. We all must carry Charlie’s torch. Pick up a Bible. Study it. Dawn Pegis's avatar

it snuck in as 'political correctness'. That, then, became the dominant voice in education, then all the institutions. How many of us have felt silenced. (or maybe we just haven't been as bold as Charlie). I think our own understanding of our own imperfections (SIN) have self-silenced many. That has to stop now. Yes, self examination, but boldness in proclaiming TRUTH in all areas.

Yes. The whole PC thing sounded suspect from the start. It was a lure, and too hard to resist for people who didn’t want to forge a character that would garner respect. A few catch words, and presto, popularity.

And yet they can. I don’t think they consider the collateral damage of Democrat thinking, like this assassination, to be a sufficient reason to shift. I finally subscribed, Alex! I've enjoyed the summary readings, but I needed to hear all the words you have to say on this topic. I'm probably a lifer now. Losing Charlie has me feeling deeply saddened...for his family, for all of us who hung on his words and were inspired by his actions, for our country, and for the republic as we know it. At the same time, I've never been more certain that he has inspired millions to pick up the mic and continue on in a way to honor his legacy. It's so strange... I always considered myself on the "left" of politics, but this is something else.

It worries me that people are still using such terminology when something much more fundamental is happening to us today.

Critical thinking versus propaganda-swallowing, is not a "left/right" thing. It is a good/bad thing, and we must recognize that, or we'll all be fighting yet another battle with each other before we're done.

Good point about critical thinking! That’s one area where Charlie Kirk really shined. He was able to get many young people to think critically about their beliefs, values, and attitudes in a way very few could.

Demeisen's avatar

I can't remember being so quietly sad. Deeply angry in a way that doesn't even feel like anger. Even the lockdowns and personal attacks for not endorsing leftism just hurt me. They didn't really deeply confuse me, in a true sense.

I played "Pride (in the name of love)" this morning before going to work, and prayed. Not taking a "wellness day" for my hurt butt, but getting up and going to work to fulfill my obligations and help people.

Right now I'm listening to a mix of music, a lot of it spiritual.

They made a mistake.

Decaf's avatar

This assassination was a bridge too far for me. Totally senseless. An act of wanton destruction of good. I’ve let my friends off the hook in spite of so many things they’ve done and said. I feel a total revision is necessary at this point.

Wonderful piece. With regard to your Footnote 1, I think it's not as deep a mystery as you do. Trump had been a major celebrity since the 1980s, thoroughly familiar with Hollywood, professional sports, the fashion industry and its supermodels, the New York arts scene, etc. He became a bigger celebrity with "The Apprentice," at the same time that social media were becoming a major thing. His age did not prevent him from seeing what was right under his nose: that social media had become crucial to the public image of celebrities.

I have been concerned about the next Presidential election. I don't expect to be alive to vote again but I was concerned about the Dems getting total power again. As terrible as this event has been perhaps it will change enough minds to stop that from happening.

Hearing pundits on left media talking about Mr. Kirk's hate filled speech but unable to find any examples of it in the many clips of his speeches other then perhaps suggesting that there are not numerous genders or that he believed in the Christian faith and conservative principals.

I hope they catch the killer soon, he gets a quick trial, and I think perhaps Utah is the state with firing squad as a death penalty. That would be a just sentence for this monster.
