I am beyond sick of elite media condescension

So yesterday Ezra Klein - the bluest media bluecheck of all - whined on Twitter that if people like him had just been nicer to Joe Rogan, Rogan wouldn’t have asked so many mean nasty questions about the vaccines.

Then the bluechecks wouldn’t have to try to shut him up!

If you don’t know Klein, he cofounded the hyperwoke Website Vox. He now has 2.7 million followers on Twitter and a podcast for the New York Times. Here’s what he said:

These people.

These #@$T@$@ people.

No, I don’t know Joe Rogan well, but I know him a lot better than Ezra Klein does.

Here’s what I know about Joe.

He’s intellectually curious. He’s smart. He asks good questions. He admits when he doesn’t know something or when he’s wrong (WHICH IS WHY HE APOLOGIZED FOR USING THE N-WORD). He likes debate. He likes to hear different points of view.

How different? Early on in the pandemic, he had Dr. Peter Hotez - the most fanatical vaccine fanatic of all - on his podcast.

Is Joe Rogan a scientist? No. But if the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that a lot of scientists aren’t scientists. Hotez is just one among many academics who were incredibly concerned about the pace of mRNA vaccine development when Donald Trump was president and far less worried after he lost the election.

September 2020:

December 2020:

New party in power, new science! A four-month clinical trial is PLENTY!

So Ezra Klein thinks Joe Rogan should have the “most credible, informed voices on the topics he’s exploring.”

People Ezra trusts. And if Ezra trusts them, you can too! Because Ezra thinks all the right thinks and none of the wrong thinks. Everyone at his dinner parties tells him so.

Here’s the thing.

Those “credible, informed voices” have been completely, totally, absolutely, unequivocally wrong about Covid from the jump. Every policy they have demanded - at massive human, social, and economic cost - has failed. Lockdowns were going to be the bridge to the vaccines, and vaccines the bridge to the end of the epidemic. Two years later, the chart looks like this:

Does anyone with eyes really believe we would have been worse off if we had done nothing at all?

As I write in PANDEMIA, by early April 2020 the truth about Covid was clear - it could not crack the hospital system even under the worst possible conditions. Thus it should have been managed as a medical problem. Every single societal intervention since then has been theater. And the kicker is that none of them work.

And it’s not just Covid.

ALL the major leftist/woke policy initiatives of the last decade are going disastrously wrong. Progressive policing and prosecution and decarceration? The United States murder rate is up more than half from its lows five years ago, and some cities are in far worse shape.

The effort to demonize carbon fuels?

Turns out that alternative sources at this point can’t handle even the small fraction of the load environmentalists want to put on them.

Which is fine, if you’re a bluecheck living in Brooklyn and don’t have a house to heat or kids to drive around.

Otherwise, energy prices matter.

Huge deficits and super-loose fiscal policy (okay, both parties have been guilty here, but the left pulled far ahead last year):

Worst of all, the progressive response to all these hard facts has increasingly been not to debate or even acknowledge them but to try to shout down - and now censor - anyone who points them out.

The result has been a flowering of new sources of information that can provide the data and analysis the institutional media will not. And people like Ezra Klein are now seeing just how much power and influence they have lost; they are seeing that they cannot stamp Rogan out, no matter how hard they try.

Instead they want to show him how much smarter they are than he is and coax him back into the fold.

How about getting something right for a change?
